Ace Frehley’s surviving KISS bandmates came together in New York to farewell the legendary guitarist during an intimate funeral service.
Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss attended the ceremony on Wednesday, marking a poignant reunion for the original KISS members.
Frehley passed away on October 16 at the age of 74 in Morristown, New Jersey, after reportedly being placed on life support following a fall that caused a brain bleed.
Radio host and close friend Eddie Trunk confirmed the band members’ attendance at the funeral, describing the past few days as “emotional” as friends and family said goodbye to the rock icon.
“Ace Frehley has now been laid to rest in Bronx, NY,” Trunk wrote on social media.
“It has been an emotional couple of days to say the least, saying farewell to a rock icon and long-time friend.”
The radio personality emphasised the intimate nature of the service, noting that “All of the services went as well as they could and were attended by a small group of family and close friends, including the 3 surviving original members of Kiss.”
The moment marked a touching show of unity between the bandmates, whose relationships had seen both rifts and reconciliations over the years.
Trunk also revealed that plans are underway for a larger tribute show to celebrate Frehley’s legacy, with his family’s blessing.
“That’s something I feel, and many others feel, is deserved and should happen,” he said.
In the days following Frehley’s death, Simmons and his fellow bandmates paid tribute to the guitarist’s enormous influence on KISS and rock music as a whole.
“Our hearts are broken. Ace has passed on. No one can touch Ace’s legacy. I know he loved the fans. He told me many times,” Simmons wrote.
KISS’s official Instagram account paid tribute to the guitarist on Friday with a touching post that read: “Few have left a mark on rock ’n’ roll like Ace Frehley. Beyond his legendary solos and unmistakable sound, Ace will always be remembered for inspiring countless fans to pick up a guitar for the very first time.
