On Thursday Oct 23 at NSW Parliament House, Australia made history. The My Guardian Centenarians’ Lunch brought together 150 Australians aged 100 and over – officially breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of centenarians, more than doubling the previous record!
The event was a joyful celebration of life, love and legacy, honouring those who have witnessed a century of change – from world wars to social revolutions – and who continue to inspire with their strength and wisdom.
Among the record-setting guests were war veterans, pioneering migrants, educators and everyday heroes, each carrying a unique story of courage, contribution and enduring spirit. Together, they represented more than 10,000 years of life experience under one roof.
“We are immensely proud of our centenarians and delighted to honour them on the world stage,” said Jad Haber, CEO and Founder of My Guardian. “They’ve seen extraordinary changes over a century, and today we celebrate not just their longevity, but the stories, memories and wisdom that come with it.”
The lunch coincided with Grandparents Week and took place just days before the new rights-based Aged Care Act comes into effect on 1 November, highlighting the importance of dignity, respect and empowerment for older Australians.
“NSW Parliament is proud to host this historic occasion and to honour those who have shaped our communities across generations,” said The Hon Jodie Harrison, Minister for Seniors.
Diala Azzi Haber, Co-Founder of My Guardian, added, “This isn’t just about breaking a record – it’s about celebrating real people and real stories. Each centenarian in the room carries a century of memories, and today we gave them a platform to be celebrated and heard.”
By partnering with Guinness World Records, My Guardian transformed the lunch into a moment of national pride and a global message: that compassion, care and connection are the legacies we owe to those who came before us.
“What we’ve achieved today isn’t just history – it’s humanity,” said Haber. “It shows that when a country comes together with heart and purpose, we can create moments that inspire and unite us all.”
