The search for missing Victorian woman Lucinda Miller has ended in tragedy, after police confirmed her remains were found during a renewed search east of Melbourne – exactly three years to the day since she vanished.
The 24-year-old was last seen in Neerim South in 2021.
Police believe she was dropped off by a rideshare driver on McDougal Road near Whitelaw Track, just outside the small Gippsland town, about 11.30am that day but never made it home.
On Thursday, a reinvigorated search involving more than 60 people uncovered human remains later confirmed to be Ms Miller’s.
“Local police would like to extend their thanks to the Neerim South CFA, SES, DEECA and the AFP for their support and assistance,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
“Her death is not being treated as suspicious.”
Detective Senior Constable Michael Fowler said the new search effort was aided by improved technology compared with the original investigation.
“We are still searching for answers for the family and for the community to try and find out what happened to Lucinda,” he said on Tuesday.
Authorities said the discovery brought a sad conclusion to a long-running investigation that had deeply affected the Neerim South community.
