Diane Keaton’s official cause of death has been revealed.

Almost a week after the beloved star’s passing on October 11, her family have confirmed that she died of pneumonia in a statement shared to People.

“The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,” the statement read.

“She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her.”

The official statement comes not long after her charitable acts were revealed by The People Concern, a non-profit organisation assisting victims of domestic violence and homelessness

The beloved actress retreated from the public eye earlier this year as she reportedly wanted to deal with her health battles privately.

“In her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private. Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening,” a source told People.

While details of Keaton’s health in her final months are not publicly known, the actress had previously suffered from skin cancer and bulimia.

The actress’ death caught the world by storm, with fans and celebrity friends paying tribute to the star.

Keaton is survived by her two adopted children, daughter Dexter and son Duke.
