Star Trek legend William Shatner is reassuring fans he’s “perfectly fine” after reports of a dramatic hospital dash had people clutching their phasers in concern.
The 94-year-old Captain Kirk actor was reportedly at home in Los Angeles when paramedics were called following blood sugar issues. Sources told TMZ that he’s now “doing good” and “resting comfortably” –— words every Trekkie wants to hear after fearing the Enterprise’s most famous captain might be grounded.
In true Shatner style, the man himself took to Instagram overnight, cutting through intergalactic rumour faster than warp speed: “I over indulged. I thank you all for caring but I’m perfectly fine. I keep telling you all: don’t trust tabloids or AI!”
So there you have it. The tabloids may have had him at death’s door, but Shatner insists it was just a case of going a little too boldly into the dessert cart.
The Los Angeles Fire Department did dispatch an ambulance to his home, but only as a precaution. After all, when Captain Kirk calls, you answer – even if it’s just to check his glucose levels.
Shatner has been candid about his health challenges over the years. Last year, he revealed he was treated for stage 4 melanoma, which he first noticed as a lump under his right ear. His doctor initially suggested a “massage and monitor” approach – proof that even in Hollywood, sometimes medical advice sounds like a yoga class.
He also battles permanent tinnitus, thanks to standing too close to a Star Trek explosion in 1967. One could say the man has literally been living with the sound of sci-fi ringing in his ears ever since.
Still, nothing seems to slow him down. The Canadian-born star has enjoyed a career spanning seven decades, with roles in TJ Hooker, Boston Legal, and Miss Congeniality. He even blasted into actual space in 2021 aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket, officially becoming the oldest human to leave Earth. Kirk finally made it to the stars with no CGI required.
More recently, he released his 2023 documentary You Can Call Me Bill, explaining it was a way to leave something meaningful for his grandchildren. Ever the showman, even his reflections on mortality come with a cinematic flair.
For now, though, Shatner seems happy to prove the tabloids wrong once again. He’s at home, resting, and perhaps steering clear of any future overindulgences. Unless, of course, it’s at warp speed.
