Rick Davies, the legendary musician who co-founded British rock band Supertramp, has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 81.
The singer-songwriter passed away peacefully at his home in New York, closing the chapter on a career that helped shape the sound of classic rock in the 1970s.
Davies’ distinctive voice and songwriting propelled Supertramp to global acclaim, with enduring hits such as Give A Little Bit and The Logical Song.
The latter, with its memorable line – “When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful, a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical” – became an anthem for a generation and continues to resonate with fans decades later.
Davies formed Supertramp in 1970 alongside Roger Hodgson. The band’s most iconic era came with the addition of Dougie Thomson, Bob Siebenberg and John Helliwell, a line-up that defined Supertramp’s golden years between 1973 and 1983.
Though the band’s final studio album, Slow Motion, was released in 2002, their influence remains woven into the fabric of rock history.
In 2015, Davies was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, forcing the cancellation of a planned 25-date European tour.
His passing marks the end of an era for one of Britain’s most cherished rock acts, a legacy etched into music history by his artistry and timeless songs.
