Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has shared that he recently underwent surgery to remove a form of skin cancer.

The 58-year-old took to social media to reveal a scar and stitches under his ear following the removal of a basal cell carcinoma.

“Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma thank you!” Ramsay wrote alongside images of the bandaged area.

The chef lightened the serious news with a trademark joke: “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend ❤️ I promise you it’s not a face lift! I’d need a refund…….😜.”

Basal cell carcinoma is a common type of skin cancer that begins in basal cells – those responsible for producing new skin as old cells die off. It typically appears as a transparent bump and most often develops on areas frequently exposed to the sun, such as the head and neck.

Fans and friends quickly flooded Ramsay’s post with well wishes. His doctor, Dr Rakesh Anand, commented: “It was a pleasure to have looked after you, and thank you for raising awareness of skin cancer and the importance of sun protection. Wishing you a smooth recovery! 🙌☀️.”

Family members and colleagues also showed their support. “Love you dad ❤️,” wrote his daughter Holly, while Next Level Chef UK winner Jade Greenhalgh added: “So glad you’re sorted! Speedy recovery Chef.”

Fellow chef Jason Roberts praised Ramsay’s proactive health move: “Well done you for getting a skin check! Something we should all be lining up for 👏👏👏👏.”

Fans echoed the sentiment with a mix of relief and humour. “Gordon you’re so funny! Thank God you’re ok… No face-lift needed,” one wrote. Another quipped: “You’re an inspiration sir. I can only imagine you took one look at those chaotic cells and simply said… ‘get out.’”

Ramsay’s candid post serves as both a health update and a reminder of the importance of sun protection – even for the world’s toughest chef.
