Kyle Sandilands was notably missing from Thursday’s broadcast of The Kyle and Jackie O Show, just days after sparking concern by suggesting he had suffered a stroke live on-air.
The 53-year-old radio host appeared visibly confused during Tuesday’s episode, repeatedly jumbling his words before telling listeners: “I think I’ve had a stroke. I feel that I’ve said the wrong words multiple times this morning, and I’m not super tired.”
Co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson was quick to reassure him, insisting: “No, you haven’t.” But moments later, a producer backed Sandilands’ concerns, pointing out that he had mixed up the word “mattock” with “Matlock”.
Sandilands’ absence comes after a series of health struggles this year. He revealed in April that he had been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm, alongside other issues that have left him rethinking his lifestyle. Speaking on-air last month, he admitted he had gained 12 kilograms over the past year, tipping the scales at 138kg.
“I brushed it off inside,” he said of his health challenges. “My wife is on me about it, asking if I would like to come for a walk with her and Otto. I would like to, but just too fat and lazy to go.”
Despite acknowledging the risks, Sandilands confessed to resisting dietary changes. “I also use an opportunity to eat a packet of chicken and biscuits! I know I’m doing myself in,” he admitted.
Earlier this week, he underwent a series of medical scans, with results still pending. In his trademark humour, the broadcaster floated the idea of launching “Kyle’s Big Fatso Club” to encourage others to join him on what he described as a “slow march to healthiness”.
KIIS FM has not confirmed when Sandilands will return to the airwaves.
