MasterChef Australia wrapped up its 2025 season in spectacular style on Tuesday night, with South Australian chef Laura Sharrad taking home the coveted trophy – and $250,000 – after an unforgettable showdown against close friend and fellow restaurateur Callum Hann.

It was a fittingly dramatic finish for the pair, whose journeys have mirrored each other in remarkable ways. Both had previously finished runner-up on their original seasons, returned for the 2020 Back To Win series, and now, in this latest chapter, battled side-by-side for culinary glory.

The grand final unfolded over two intense rounds, beginning with an ingredient knockout challenge that saw both Laura and Callum score an impressive 38 points. The decider came in a 4.5-hour pressure test, where they were tasked with recreating pastry chef Michael ‘Miko’ Llamanzares-Aspiras’ stunning “Botanical Garden”, an intricate, edible bouquet of flowers requiring a staggering 149 steps.

Laura dazzled the judges, scoring 48 points to Callum’s 35, and sealing her victory with a total of 80 points. Callum, ever gracious, collected $40,000 for his second-place finish, while Jamie Fleming took home $10,000 in third.

For Laura, the win was the culmination of a lifelong dream.

“This is like the most surreal feeling in the whole entire world,” she said. “I’m truly so proud of myself for coming back for a third time, completely setting myself up for heartbreak, and pulling off what I never thought I really could do, but I’ve wanted to for so long. I’ve dreamt of this moment since I was 13.”

She credited the support of her family, especially having her young daughter Florence cheering her on in the finale, as “the most truly special experience of my life”.

Laura also paid tribute to her long-time competitor and friend.

“Callum, just the support that you’ve shown me throughout this competition both times has been so truly special. So thank you so much for everything.”

In an emotional moment, judge Andy Allen reflected on the late Jock Zonfrillo, who mentored Laura before his passing in 2023.

“Laura, in this moment with you finally winning the title, it feels right to mention how proud Jock would be of you,” he said. “It’s so amazing to know that he lives on through your food.”

With her victory, Laura joins the MasterChef hall of fame. But for her, the sweetest prize might just be knowing she made her teenage dream a reality.
