Brandon Blackstock, the former husband of singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson, has died aged 48 following a private, years-long battle with cancer.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed in a statement shared by his family:
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
Blackstock, a former talent manager, shared two children with Clarkson, daughter River Rose, 11, and son Remington “Remy” Alexander, 9.
News of his passing comes just weeks after Clarkson, 43, postponed several dates of her Las Vegas residency, citing a family emergency. In a rare personal statement at the time, she explained:
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
Clarkson filed for divorce in 2020 after seven years of marriage, though the pair remained closely connected as co-parents.
Blackstock also had two children from a previous relationship and was a grandfather.
His quiet strength through illness and his devotion to his family were remembered in the family’s statement, which has prompted an outpouring of condolences from across the entertainment world.
He is survived by his four children, grandchildren, and extended family.
