A worker at a Sydney service station received a rude shock last week when a customer walked in to pay for his petrol in nothing but a pair of thongs and sunglasses.

CCTV footage of the bizarre incident shows the naked man casually walking into Edgecliff BP and using his phone at the counter to pay for petrol.

The footage is believed to have been captured on Thursday last week, though the reasons behind the man’s nudie run remain a mystery.

Pictures and footage of the situation was posted to Twitter by Bruno Bouchet, the manager for Kyle Sandilands.

“Real life version of that dream you have when you’re completely starkers in public,” he wrote above a snap of the man walking into the petrol station.

Mr Bouchet told the  Daily Mail  that, despite the nudity, the worker behind the counter was also concerned at the man’s lack of mask.

“He thought it was crazy like anyone else,” he said.

“But there was no conversation about what was happening.

“He was concerned he wasn’t wearing a mask, but he was shocked and wanted to be professional, so didn’t say anything.”

The owner of a nearby business told  The Daily Telegraph  that the man’s behaviour was “shameful” and this was the first time something like this had happened in the area.

It is understood NSW Police are aware of the situation but police hadn’t been called regarding the incident. Under NSW law it is illegal to “wilfully and obscenely expose his or her person … within view from a public place or a school”.

The maximum penalty for this offence is six months in prison or a $1100 fine.
