The rugby community has united during a heartwarming charity match for motor neurone disease.
The charity match, which was organised in honour of former league star Rob Burrow, who died following a battle with MND in 2024, featured Burrow’s son, Jackson, who was given a chance to score a try in the match between Team Burrow and Team Ed Slater.
The seven-year-old boy was given the ball during a part of the match by a teammate.
Jackson made a run for it from the halfway line, and dodged his older opponents along the way, with the young boy looking pleased as he dived across the line to score.
His teammates then lifted him up into the air and patted his head, with the delighted crowd applauding and congratulating the young boy for his score.
Viewers watching from home shared their love towards the heartwarming scene.
“This is quality,” commented one rugby fan.
“What an absolute joy to see. Truly remarkable,” added another.
“Absolutely unreal this. Video of the year,” wrote a third.
“Possibly the cutest thing I’ve ever seen,” commented a fourth.
Burrow died at the age of 41, after a battle with MND. At the time, he had raised more than $40 million for MND charities alongside former teammate Kevin Sinfield.
Both were awarded CBEs for their efforts in raising money and awareness of the disease.
Ed Slater, who was also being represented in the charity match, is a former rugby union star who was diagnosed with MND in July 2022. He has since founded his own charity, the 4Ed Foundation, dedicated to supporting individuals and families living with MND.
