Hollywood actor Bruce Campbell has revealed he has been given a five-year prognosis following a cancer diagnosis, but says he is determined to continue working and enjoying his life.

Campbell, 68, made the revelation during an appearance on The Adam Carolla Show, while choosing not to disclose the type of cancer he has.

“I’m in a five-year prognosis,” the actor shared. “This is what the type of cancer I have – which I don’t want to get into – is the current thing is a five-year deal.”

Campbell said he has chosen to focus on living with the disease rather than fearing it.

“It’s a fascinating thing that takes place because [cancer] messes with your head, too. I’ve decided though, pretty specifically, to live with it, not die from it.

“You can go down a massive rabbit hole. The cancer rabbit hole is enormous. You can go into focus groups of 10,000 guys who have exactly what you have. I won’t touch it with a 10-foot pole.”

Campbell is continuing to work with his latest independent film Ernie & Emma, which he wrote, directed, produced and stars in.

The film follows a retired, widowed pear salesman who takes a road trip to scatter his late wife’s ashes.

“It’s a very fascinating time of having a movie about a guy who’s spreading his wife’s ashes, who died, made by a guy who’s dying,” he said.

Despite his health battle, Campbell said he has no plans to step away from filmmaking.

“I’m moving on. I got a movie to promote. And when I promote this movie, I have nothing. I’m free and clear when I promote this movie mentally,” Campbell said.

“You have to make this decision of, ‘Well, OK, but do I have to stop everything that I’m doing because of this?’ Well, no.”

Campbell said he currently feels “perfect”, while acknowledging the difficulties that can come with cancer.

“The cancer, it creeps me out because of the ancillary stuff that it does. You don’t die from cancer. You die from what cancer does to you.”

He first revealed his diagnosis in March, describing the cancer as “treatable” but “not curable”.

At the time, Campbell said he planned to focus on treatment before returning to promote Ernie & Emma.

“My plan is to get as well as I possibly can over the summer so that I can tour with my new movie ‘Ernie & Emma’ this fall,” he wrote at the time.

He added that despite the demands of the treatment and work he remains “tough” and has a “great support” system, before thanking his fans.

Campbell is best known for playing Ash Williams in Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead horror series, beginning with the original 1981 film and continuing with Evil Dead II in 1987.

He has also appeared in numerous television series, directed several projects and returned as Ash in Ash vs. Evil Dead in 2015.
