Dolly Parton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been vandalised, almost a week after her death at age 80.
Images and videos posted to social media showed the star’s name has been covered in dark markings after it became a location for fans to leave tributes for the country music legend.
According to a witness, a “woman kicked candles around then with the shards of one scratched the star. Then a man came and stole the flowers that were there.”
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which manages the Walk of Fame, told 7News that a “fan went to the star yesterday and reported on social that the star was vandalised with many scratches”.
“From the photo she posted, it does appear the star was vandalised with scratches,” it said.
One post on social media showing the vandalised star said: ”This was so sad but we should follow her lessons to always be kind and loving.”
The chamber added the floral tributes for Parton were removed on Monday morning to make way for scheduled repairs the following day.
“This repair was set up late last week and the crew just completed the first part of making said repairs.”
“The star repairs are currently ongoing and are done by the Hollywood Historic Trust which maintains and repairs the Walk of Fame stars.
“The star will cure and will be polished on Friday for fans to enjoy.”
The star is one of two dedicated to Parton along the Walk of Fame, the first added in 1984 for her achievements as a solo musician. The second was added in 2019 for her trio work with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt.
The update comes after the country music legend was laid to rest beside her husband Carl Dean at a private memorial on Sunday.
