Jelena Dokic has won her second Logie, with fans praising the former tennis star after she was named Most Popular Sports Presenter at Sunday night’s awards.
Dokic received the newly introduced Bruce McAvaney Award, beating fellow nominees including Australian broadcasting legend Bruce McAvaney, Ricky Ponting, Danika Mason, Eddie McGuire and James Bracey.
The win came as a surprise to Dokic, who had already ruled herself out of contention and was not at the ceremony because she is currently in Europe.
Instead, the 43-year-old delivered her acceptance speech via video after apparently learning of the result only hours before the event.
“Hi everyone,” she said.
“Sorry I can’t be there tonight. But, what can I say, it’s incredible. Another Logie. It’s actually so hard to believe it.
“Firstly, I just want to say it’s an honour to even be nominated for this incredible award, especially because it’s named after the great man, Bruce McAvaney.”
Dokic went on to pay tribute to McAvaney, who was nominated for his commentary work during SBS’s coverage of the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
“I just wanted to say, Bruce, we all look up to you and you are such an inspiration with everything you do and what you do. You are the best at what you do, but also you are incredibly kind and generous.
“You are actually one of the very first people that I met about eight years ago when I got into this industry and you were so kind, you were so supportive and so welcoming. I will never forget it.”
She also congratulated the other nominees and spoke about the friendships she has developed since moving into television.
“Also to all the other nominees, congratulations. Also, I pretty much know all of you, or most of you, and I’ve also been lucky enough to work with you as well. I just want to say, you’re all amazing. You’re all amazing at your craft. Unbelievable people as well.
“It’s so fun to work with you and I hope we can work more together in the future.”
Dokic’s victory prompted an enthusiastic response from fans, many of whom had backed her after the nominations were announced in June.
One fan wrote: “Jelena is incredible at what she does she does – so well deserving.”
Another said: “You’re the bomb Jelena. Warmest congratulations. You are the best at your craft”.
“Well deserved! Congratulations Jelena,” another fan wrote.
One Instagram user added: “Congratulations Jelena, well deserved, love your work, you are an inspiration”.
Dokic shared several of the messages on her Instagram Stories as fans continued to congratulate her.
The former Wimbledon semi-finalist had previously admitted she did not expect to win.
“While I don’t need to a crystal ball to know I won’t win this one, it’s absolutely incredible to be even be nominated especially along side so many amazing presenters,” she wrote on Instagram on Saturday.
“My 13 years old self would be so proud and so would me form 8 years ago when I started in the TV and media industry and I could only dream of a career in this industry let alone to be recognised with a nomination like this one for a Logie”.
The award is Dokic’s second Logie since beginning her television career.
Last year, she won the award for Best Factual or Documentary Program for Unbreakable: The Jelena Dokic Story, which explored her life and tennis career.
Dokic has since established herself as a familiar face in Australian sport coverage through her work as a commentator and presenter with Channel Nine.
Her latest win comes while she is overseas, with Dokic recently sharing holiday photographs from Macedonia with her boyfriend, Yane Veselinov.
Nine also won the award for Best Sports Coverage at this year’s Logies for its broadcast of the Australian Open in January.
