Kyle Sandilands has hit back at Sunrise host Nat Barr after a tense interview ahead of the launch of his new podcast, Kyle Sandilands Live.
Sandilands appeared on the show to discuss his new show, but the conversation turned to his past radio controversies and whether he would want his four-year-old son, Otto, to listen to old episodes of The Kyle and Jackie O Show.
The questioning clearly left an impression on Sandilands, who later criticised Barr while speaking on his own program.
“I was going to say, ‘It’s strange you’re bringing up my son when you’re sitting here with these scaly legs that clearly need some sort of Palmer’s Butter put on them,'” he said to his streaming audience, according to news.com.au.
Sandilands claimed Barr’s legs were “very scaly” during the interview, but said he chose not to make the comment on Sunrise because he “respects women”.
The comments came after Barr questioned Sandilands about some of the controversies surrounding his former radio program.
During the Sunrise interview, Sandilands defended some of his past comments, describing them as “learning lessons”.
“When I’ve done things, and a lot of these things have been perceived to have been bad, some are genuinely bad or mistakes or stupid things that I’ve said,” he said.
“But they’re really just jokes.
“And then ‘someone’ is offended. It only takes one person to be offended in this day and age, and then the whole world has to stop.”
Sandilands also claimed some of his controversies had been “twisted” by rival radio stations to make his comments appear more serious.
Following the interview, he also posted a video on social media expressing his frustration with the questions asked on Sunrise.
“Just leaving Sunrise. Obviously, I’ve dropped a grenade in there, daring to question Nat about ‘So, you’re horrible to women and handicapped people and anyone with any sort of sadness?’
“No, I’m not, that’s b******t that you read in the newspaper.”
