The Block host Scott Cam has given fans an encouraging health update from his hospital bed after undergoing a full knee replacement, sharing a series of photos and a heartfelt message as he begins the road to recovery.
The 63-year-old television favourite posted several images from hospital, including one showing him giving the camera a thumbs-up, while revealing he had spent the past two weeks “getting a new knee”.
Despite the major operation, Cam’s trademark good humour was on full display.
“I’ve been getting a new knee for the past two weeks,” he told fans, adding that he was now on the mend after the procedure.
The surgery comes just as the new season of The Block premieres, with Cam previously revealing that his knee troubles had been made worse during filming when an enthusiastic contestant jumped into his arms during the show’s opening episode.
Speaking recently from his hospital room during a radio interview, Cam admitted the recovery had been far from easy.
“The first five days is not good. Let me tell you,” he said.
“I was on the heavy-duty painkillers in the early days because knee replacements are pretty big. There’s a lot of pain involved.”
However, he said he was through the worst of it and looking forward to heading home, although he still needed a walking stick to get around.
The operation is the latest in a string of health setbacks for the longtime carpenter and television presenter, whose years on building sites have taken a physical toll. In 2020, he underwent emergency neck surgery after years of wear and tear compressed nerves in his spine.
While his recovery will continue for some time, fans were reassured by his smiling photos and positive outlook, with many sending messages of support and wishing him a speedy return to full strength ahead of another season helping Australians build their dream homes.
