Beloved comedian and actor Magda Szubanski has shared some welcome news with fans, revealing she is preparing to step back into public life for the first time since her cancer diagnosis.
The Kath & Kim favourite, who announced earlier this year that her rare blood cancer was in remission following chemotherapy, says she is ready for what she described as a “cheery” new chapter.
Szubanski revealed she will make her first public appearance in many months as part of a tour promoting her forthcoming memoir, I Can’t Tell You, But I Will, giving fans a chance to see her back on stage.
Sharing the news on social media, the 65-year-old said she was excited – and a little nervous – about reconnecting with audiences after such a challenging year.
The event series will begin in Melbourne before travelling to other major cities, with Szubanski promising an evening of stories, humour and heartfelt conversation about her life and career.
The announcement has been met with an outpouring of support from fans, many of whom have followed her health journey since she revealed she had been diagnosed with stage-four mantle cell lymphoma in 2025.
In February, Szubanski shared the uplifting news that her cancer was in remission after completing chemotherapy, thanking her medical team and supporters for helping her through one of the toughest periods of her life.
“It’s not a cure,” she said at the time, “but because I got a good remission, that hopefully means I’ll keep the cancer at bay for a good long time.”
For generations of Australians, Szubanski has been one of the country’s most loved entertainers, with memorable roles in Fast Forward, Babe and, of course, as Sharon Strzelecki in Kath & Kim.
Her return to the public stage is likely to be warmly welcomed by fans eager to celebrate not only her remarkable career, but also her resilience and optimism after an incredibly difficult year.
