Australians will soon have the chance to collect a new series of limited-edition $2 coins celebrating the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with the Royal Australian Mint releasing three sport-themed designs over coming weeks.
The coins will be available exclusively through participating Woolworths checkouts as change while stocks last.
The first coin, celebrating gymnastics, will begin circulating from Wednesday, July 15. It features a golden gymnast arched in salute above a green and gold star, a design element shared across the series.
A second coin honouring wheelchair basketball will be released from July 22, followed by an athletics-themed coin featuring a runner from July 29.
Olympic swimming champion Mollie O’Callaghan visited Woolworths to mark the launch before leading Australia’s Commonwealth Games swimming squad alongside Lani Pallister.
Royal Australian Mint chief executive Emily Martin encouraged Australians to keep an eye on their change.
“You too might take home gold,” she said.
The coins will only be available through most Woolworths cash registers, although the supermarket said they will be stocked at most stores while supplies last.
“This is the third Commonwealth Games coin program which Woolworths has collaborated with the Mint on,” Commonwealth Games Australia chief executive Craig Phillips AM said.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, featuring a 10-sport competition.
