Suspected remains belonging to missing Sydney woman Nadire Sensoy have been found nearly eight years after police allege she was murdered.

Ms Sensoy vanished from her home at Prospect in Sydney’s west in December 2018. In 2020, authorities issued a public appeal and offered a reward for new information about the whereabouts of the 71-year-old.

A coronial inquest into her death began in 2023, but it was halted just days later after the arrest of a 47-year-old man.

On Thursday, police excavating a site of interest on Powers Road at Seven Hills found remains in a shallow grave about 100 metres from a creek bed.

Superintendent Darrin Batchelor said the discovery had brought conflicting emotions for Ms Sensoy’s family. A 47-year-old man is before the courts, and police will allege the murder was linked to domestic violence.

“They did get comfort that her body had been located,” he said.

“But obviously the emotions of reliving what had happened to their mother. They were quite upset at the same time.”

Superintendent Batchelor said police had been speaking with the accused man over several years, but investigators had not been able to determine an alleged motive.

Police believe Ms Sensoy was murdered in the Blacktown area sometime between December 6 and December 11, 2018.

Her remains are now with the coroner, and her cause of death is yet to be established.

“There may be further charges coming out of that,” he added.

Superintendent Batchelor also said the $350,000 reward for information about Ms Sensoy’s death remains on offer.

Investigations are continuing.
