Ahmed Al Ahmed, the man hailed for disarming one of the alleged gunmen during the Bondi terror attack, has now been charged with assault and stalking-related offences.
The 44-year-old is accused over an alleged incident at a home in Bankstown on March 9, in which he allegedly put his father in a headlock.
NSW Police said he was charged on Wednesday. “A 44-year-old man was served with a Court Attendance Notice for common assault and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic),” police said.
Al Ahmed is scheduled to appear in Bankstown Local Court on July 29.
Speaking to the ABC, he denied the allegation, saying it was “fake information … it’s not true at all”.
“I don’t have any information at all,” he said.
He also said his focus remained on his recovery, telling the ABC he was concentrating on his health and still required further operations on his arm after being shot during the Bondi attack.
The latest charges come amid ongoing legal issues involving his family. Earlier in May, his younger brothers, Hozifah and Sameh Al Ahmed, were ordered to stay away from him after facing court over allegations they threatened him.
They were charged with allegedly using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend their older brother. According to reports, police allege the pair called Al Ahmed and demanded $100,000 each from him. Both brothers have pleaded not guilty to all charges and are due to face court on June 8.
Al Ahmed, who works as a tobacconist, became widely known after footage showed him moving up behind one of the Bondi attackers, tackling him and taking away his weapon. The intervention slowed the attack and was credited with helping save lives.
He was shot twice in the arm during the confrontation and has since undergone multiple surgeries.
His actions drew international attention, and a fundraiser in his name raised more than $2.5 million. He was later presented with the Keys to the City of both Canterbury-Bankstown, where he lives, and Waverley. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also visited him in hospital while he was recovering from his injuries.
