Carrie Bickmore has shared a health update as she continues to deal with vocal cord problems that have kept her off the airwaves for weeks.
The radio host posted a photo from a hospital bed to her Instagram story on Tuesday, hinting she was receiving treatment for the issue.
“OK voice… time to come back,” she captioned the image.
While the 45-year-old did not reveal whether she had undergone surgery, the post suggested she was receiving medical treatment to address ongoing problems with her vocal cords.
Bickmore, who co-hosts The Carrie & Tommy Show on the Hit Network alongside Tommy Little, first spoke publicly about the issue last month, after taking some time away from the program.
Returning briefly to the show, she revealed an ear, nose and throat specialist had warned her about the condition of her voice.
“I am back! But this is like a ‘one night only’ special, I’m only back for today,” she told listeners.
Sounding noticeably hoarse, Bickmore explained the seriousness of the diagnosis.
“My voice hasn’t been right for some time. I went to the ENT [doctor] this morning and it’s in a very bad way… as you can hear!
“Things are not good, so I’m going to have to take some time off work to get it fixed. If I don’t get it fixed now, they [vocal cords] will be permanently damaged, which will be very unfortunate for my job…”
The former television presenter became emotional as she discussed the prospect of having to step away from a career she loves.
“It’s making me upset. I’ll be fine, sorry…” she said.
“I just don’t like letting people down and I don’t like letting myself down.
“I also really love my job and don’t want to be forced not to [ever] do it again!”
Bickmore said she was hopeful treatment would prevent any lasting damage.
“I’m taking a little bit of time off to get it fixed. I’m hoping that if I get onto it now, it will be a non-permanent thing.”
Her co-host Tommy Little offered his support during the broadcast, telling her: “We just want you healthy and back to 100%, Carrie.”
