Virgin Australia has revealed the most popular food among its passengers in 2018 – and it just cost $5.
While the airline provides a range of food and drink options, the humble cheese and crackers emerged as the top-selling item on-board.
According to Virgin Australia, it sold more than 300,600 cheese and crackers last year, amounting to 12 tonnes of the snack.
“Our guests tell us cheese and crackers are the perfect versatile snack to have on the go,” Virgin Australia’s head of in-flight services Michael Leckey told news.com.au.
“Many snacks have come and gone, but the cheese and crackers have always been a menu staple. Take a trip back to Virgin Blue 10 years ago and you’ll see our popular cheese and crackers were even on the menu then.”
Meanwhile, Virgin Australia’s competitor Qantas shows a different picture. In December, Qantas revealed that its most popular in-flight meal among economy passengers in 2018 was the Massaman beef curry and pork sausages with Paris mash, gravy and minted peas.
For the International First class passengers, the most favourite meal was steak sandwich with more than 25,000 plates served in the year.
