Why can’t WE do this?! UK company unveils "Grans Go Free" flights

EasyJet Holidays has unveiled their "first of its kind" offer allowing older relatives to travel for free on family bookings to popular European destinations, including Spain, Greece and Italy.

The offer was announced during the final week of the easyJet Holidays Big Orange Sale last week, where customers could get up to £400 off.

The move was made after a survey they conducted found that half of families have never holidayed abroad with grandparents.

From the survey of 2,000 British adults, half of them said they regret not spending more time with grandparents and hoped to travel with them in their upcoming holidays.

"We're proud to offer thousands of free kids' places, but we feel it's time to recognise the grandparents," easyJet Holidays Chief Operating Officer, Matt Callaghan said.

"This research shows how important grandparent and grandchild relationships are and how much can be learned from making time for them."

The tour operator hopes to encourage people in the UK to take a "3G" holiday - the term used for getaways with three or more generations.

They found that seventy-seven per cent of the people surveyed agreed that the bond between grandparents and grandchildren is one of the most special relationships within a family.

73 percent of these people also said that they would use the holiday opportunity to learn more about their grandparents' lives, and almost half of them want to benefit from their grandparents' wisdom.

The most popular destinations for multi-generational holidays abroad are Spain (18 per cent), Italy and France, which both sit at 13 per cent.

Limited spaces for the offer were made available and to qualify, the grandparent had to travel as part of a family booking with at least one child, and provide proof of age and relation had to be provided upon arrival at the hotel.

The offer ended on the 5th of February, but it does make us wonder, when will Australia follow in their footsteps?

Image: EasyJet/ Getty

Flight cancelled after passenger's sickening act

A flight has been cancelled at the last minute after a passenger allegedly defecated on the floor of the airplane bathroom.
The EasyJet flight was due to depart from the Spanish island of Tenerife to London’s Gatwick airport, which had already been delayed by several hours when the incident took place.

A passenger on board by the name of Aaran Gedhu told CNN that the problems began when the scheduled plane was switched out for a smaller aircraft.

Passengers were turned away from boarding the plane while the switch took place, which stirred up a frustrated atmosphere amongst passengers.

After travellers eventually made it onto the plane two hours after their scheduled departure, they had to wait for their luggage to be transferred to the new plane, which again took several hours.

As the delay extended, the atmosphere on the packed flight was characterised by "suspense and anger," Gedhu said.

"EasyJet planes, as they are, just aren't very comfortable – it's just a basic seat with okayish legroom room. So everyone was just a bit tense," he said.

"Then, the pilot finally gave the all clear, and then he said that it will be about 20 minutes until departure," recalled Gedhu.

"And that's when the incident happened with the defecation."

Gedhu, who was seated in the middle of the aircraft, saw "two passengers" visit the front airplane bathroom with word quickly spreading that someone had defecated on the bathroom floor.

As an unpleasant smell followed, passengers grew more irritated, but Gedhu says most people onboard believed the incident was an "accident".

"Everyone was being polite to each other. There was no fighting amongst the passengers," he said.

"It was just a very uncomfortable experience. Obviously, the plane was in an unsanitary state. So they had to get external cleaners out from the airport to clean it. So that's when the stairs reconnected, and the cleaners came on to deep clean the flooring."

According to Gedhu, passengers remained in their seats during the cleaning process, and after the situation had been resolved, the captain of the aircraft told the plane's occupants they would have to disembark.

"It was very frustrating," another passenger, Kitty Streek, told CNN Travel.

"We obviously can't prove whether the person simply had an accident or if they had done this out of anger for the delayed flight but it was hard not to be angry either way as nobody wants to be stranded in another country."

Heavily pregnant mum and disabled child kicked off plane

Siobhan Foster, her husband, and their disabled child were kicked off their flight after she was accused of being "aggressive" by a flight attendant.

Foster, who is seven months pregnant, was onboard an easyJet flight to Ibiza to celebrate her brother's wedding.

She struggled to find room for her carry-on in the overhead baggage compartment, so she asked a flight attendant to help her find space, but the response was reportedly "a sharp ‘Clearly Not’", which eventually led to a dispute.

When things escalated, all 180 passengers were eventually told to disembark.

One of Foster's outraged friends posted the video on social media, and the Newtonabbey mum was seen collecting hand luggage while struggling to carry her toddler.

“We’re being thrown off the plane today because of somebody thinking they’re better than everyone else,” the friend said.

The easyJet stewardess responded: “Bye, bye bye," as the upset family walked down the stairs.

Foster took to Facebook to complain about her experience with "sleezy jet".

“So, I asked could you help me find somewhere, her reply was ‘You’ll need to find somewhere yourself’ even though there literally was nowhere," she wrote.

She then claimed that she asked for help again, because she was heavily pregnant, to which the flight attendant allegedly said: "You’re being abusive and it’s not my job to help you.”

Another flight attendant reportedly backed up her co-worker, but Foster argued that other airlines have been more helpful as she is pregnant.

“Writing this, I understand it would make you think was I being abusive, but I honestly wasn’t and the whole plane can vouch for me,” Foster wrote. “People were actually putting this on [Facebook] about how bad I was treated.”

After eventually finding a place for her bag, the pregnant mum was allegedly confronted by two other crew members who also accused her of being “aggressive.”

Foster decided to ignore them because she was "crying" and "so upset," but the flight attendant reportedly started raising her voice.

They were then kicked off, and were told it was because of Foster's aggression, but when Foster’s mum and brother asked for an exact reason, the crew members allegedly couldn't give them a direct response.

After an hour, everyone had to disembark and the family were met by eight police officers and two Swissport employees and were told they would not be allowed back on the flight, despite other passengers being allowed back in.

“So, that whole day we were in Belfast airport from one lunchtime to nine that night with our child, my legs were so swollen and sore with being on them all this time I was crying uncontrollably that this was happening to us for no reason whatsoever.

“I’m so traumatized to the point I don’t know how I’ll ever fly again,” she wrote on Facebook.

EasyJet has denied any wrongdoing and a spokesperson told the Daily Mail that "a group of passengers were "behaving disruptively."

“EasyJet’s cabin crew and ground agents are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

“The Captain took the decision to ask all passengers on the flight to return to the terminal so the situation could be resolved and as soon as it was they re-boarded and the aircraft continued to Ibiza.”

Despite the incident, the Foster family eventually made it to Ibiza the next day, just in time for the wedding, after catching a RyanAir flight out of Dublin.

“Thankfully we got to Ibiza and made my brother’s wedding to say how stressed, upset, and overwhelmed I’ve been I honestly think I’ve no words,” she wrote.

“EasyJet should be ashamed of themselves and I most definitely am taking this further, I’m still in shock of how we were treated especially being seven months pregnant and having a disabled child with us.”

Images: Facebook

Man’s desperate attempt to avoid baggage fees goes viral

One man’s plight to avoid excess baggage fees has been caught on camera and gone viral.

In the video, the male passenger can be seen kicking and shoving his bag into the luggage size checker as an airline staffer looked on.

The man’s desperate efforts amused those around him, with giggling being heard in the background from fellow travellers, including the person filming.

The video, which has now been viewed over 26 million times, was captioned, “Don’t die for EasyJet.”

Eventually, the man was able to convince the staff member that his bag was the right size to count as carry-on luggage, only for it to then be stuck inside the metal frame.

"He's going to miss his flight trying to get that out," one person quipped in the comments.

"Rumour has it he is still trying to get it back out," another joined in.

Meanwhile, some thought the staff member was clearly also just having a laugh.

"The staff guy was just having a laugh, knowing well what was about to unfold," one person said.

Others empathised with the traveller for trying to avoid the extra fees, with one person sharing, "EasyJet made me pay extra for my carry-on pillow, I still haven't recovered from the shock."

“Worst food ever”: Man slams inflight sandwich with sky-high price

A man who paid for a sandwich on a plane has called out the airline for the “worst food ever”.

Alex was on an easyJet flight from Paris to London Gatwick when he ordered the $9.80 Roasted Vegetable and Hummus Baguette for his trip.

The image on the flight’s menu showed a delicious looking seeded baguette, filled with dozens of pieces of zucchini and red capsicums on a thick layer of hummus.

He was however shocked when the stewardess served him the sandwich which had only a handful of vegetables in the middle of the bread.

Alex shared a video of the sandwich with the caption: “Is this the worst airline food and advertising you’ve ever seen? I then sent the sandwich back, and got me a new one. Is this any better?

“A crew member then told me, ‘You know, the food and the picture are not the same. We were given three minutes to eat before landing, and never got our water.”

A spokesperson for the airline said they were aware of the footage and were investigating the incident.

“We’re aware of this footage and will be looking into this with our in-flight retail supplier as it appears that the item served falls short of the high standards we expect from our in-flight food and drink range for our customers,” they said.

“We will be in touch with the customer to apologise for their experience and provide a gesture of goodwill.”

Mid-flight singalong strikes the wrong chord

A man who sang a Christian worship song while strumming his guitar on board a plane has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.

Jonathan Neo was on an easyJet flight when he started to sing to his fellow passengers mid-flight.

Footage of the singing was shared online by the pastor of the group Jack Jensz Jr who captioned it: “Worshipping our King Jesus 30,000 feet in the air!”

The video, which received a whopping 31 million views in just two days, showed a few of the passengers singing along with Jonathan while others looked on angrily.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Jack Jensz Jr. (@jackjenszjr_)

Many people in the comments section slammed the group for inconveniencing passengers and for their lack of respect.

“No self awareness here at all. “You are in charge of him”: Easyjet Flight attendant scolds’ family with unruly child and threatens $180 fine

This airline’s decision just raised serious health concerns about plane cabin air

Low-cost British airline EasyJet has made a decision that has raised serious health concerns for passengers, regarding the quality of air in plane cabins during flights.

The carrier has announced that it would be fitting its aircraft with filters that are specially designed to prevent toxic fumes entering passenger cabins and cockpits.

The reason this is so controversial is that this seems to be a measure to prevent aerotoxic syndrome, the existence of which has been long been denied by the airline industry.

The budget-carrier told The Sunday Times “health concerns” had prompted the decision to “develop and design a new cabin air filtration system”. While it didn’t make a specific mention to aerotoxic syndrome, this passive acknowledgement seems to suggest at the very least that the air quality standards in plane cabins can be lifted.

Tristan Loraine a former British Airways captain who claims toxic cabin in the flight has forced him from his job praised the announcement, saying, “This is the first public acknowledgment by an airline of a problem which this industry, including my own airline, has spent decades denying. I congratulate EasyJet for having the vision and courage which no other airline had.”

Aerotoxic syndrome reportedly occurs when cabin air is compromised, causing it to be contaminated with oil fumes from the heated engines and hazardous chemicals. Crew and passengers breathes these fumes or absorb them through skin, with consistent reports of pilots, flight attendants and frequent flyers falling ill.

A report from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau released in 2014 found passengers and crew on Australian aircraft were exposed to toxic fumes on more than 1,000 occurrences in the five years leading up to the report.

But the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) remains unconvinced.

“Despite the large amount of information available to the Panel, there remain many unanswered questions in seeking to understand the potential for exposures to engine oil in aircraft cabins and the acute and chronic effects on a person’s health as the result of such exposures,” it state in a 2009 report titled Contamination of Aircraft Cabin Air by Bleed Air.

“The information available about the association between specific contaminants and symptoms appeared more frequently conjectural rather than definitive.”

What are your thoughts?

Have you arranged your travel insurance yet? One in three flights from this airline arrive late

It was Meatloaf who said, “Two out of three ain’t bad.” But when it comes to arriving at your destination on time, there’s plenty of air travellers who’d like better odds.

A survey of major airlines which covered over 850,000 flights last year examined the “on-time” performance of flights in and out of the UK. And the results are staggering.

The survey found one in three easyJet flights arrived at least 15 minutes late last year, with only 66 per cent of the arrivals meeting industry definition of “on-time”.

Richard Headland, editor of Which? magazine, said: “Flight delays are one of the most annoying things about travelling. These figures show just how frequently flights fail to reach their destination on time.”

A spokesperson for easyJet told The Independent: "easyJet operates the largest number of flights per year of any UK airline and operates in the busiest airports and most congested airspace in Europe.

“Our own data shows easyJet’s network punctuality was 76 per cent in 2016 and is at 80 per cent for 2017.

"We have a continuous focus on punctuality as we know it is important to our customers."

Top of the table overall was the Dutch airline KLM with 88 per cent on time, while the worst performers overall were Norwegian (60 per cent), Icelandair (56) and Air Transat of Canada (55).

Have you flown with any of these carriers?
