"Cringe worthy": Viewers left speechless after star attacks Elmo

Viewers were left shocked after comedian Larry David unexpectedly attacked Elmo during their appearance on the latest episode of the US Today show.

The 76-year-old was there to promote the final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, while Elmo was in the studio alongside his dad Louie to talk about the importance of mental health resources.

As the show was transitioning from segment to segment, David walked over to Elmo and smushed his face in before taking a swing at Elmo's dad.

The attack caught the show's hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin, off-guard and they began shouting at his ill-timed act.

“Oh, my gosh, you love Elmo, don’t you?” Guthrie said to David as an equally shocked Melvin exclaimed, “Oh, my God!”

While Elmo didn't seem too bothered by the encounter, the 76-year-old was lectured by muppet dad Louie for his strange act.

“Ask permission before you touch people, Larry,” Louie said.

“Get back on the couch and let’s talk about how you feel,” Elmo added.

Guthrie also called out David's inappropriate act and said: “Larry, you’ve gone too far this time."

Although the Seinfeld star was later on forced to apologise to the plush duo and Elmo accepted his apology, the situation left many viewers disgruntled, given the topic matter that Elmo was there to discuss.

“Larry David ruined a beautiful story,” one person commented on a video of the segment shared to Instagram.

“I felt like I was watching Will Smith all over again. Very sad.”

“I must say, I was shocked – it was cringe worthy,” another person wrote.

“I love Larry David, but he should have stayed seated until his own segment.”

“Although you tried to play it off, Larry David totally messed it up … guess no one told him the theme of the segment” a third shocked viewer added.

Image: US Today Show/ Instagram

One person’s cringe is another’s dream Spongebob proposal

Sometimes it’s best to keep your opinions to yourself, especially when it comes to the one of the most important days of your friend’s life, as one woman has learned the hard way.

After witnessing her best friend’s “super cringey and uncomfortable” proposal, she was left with some feedback. Some feedback she felt compelled to share, though her friend - unsurprisingly - was not too thrilled with what she heard.

Taking to Reddit’s ‘Am I the A***ole’ (commonly known as AITA), the woman asked other users for their take, wanting to find out if she really was in the wrong, as she just didn’t [get why she’s [her friend] so upset.”

“My friend invited a group of us over for her birthday last night. During dinner, her bf leaves the room and comes back playing the harmonica,” she began, before explaining how it had seemed a little odd to her, but that she’d just assumed he was “showing off or something.”

That was when things took a turn for the bizarre, with the groom-to-be switching out the harmonica to instead serenade his would-be fiancée with Spongebob’s ‘Gary Come Home’. She noted that he wasn’t a particularly good singer, and that everyone in the room appeared to have the same idea about how cringe-inducing the whole thing was.

“After he finishes singing,” the woman continued, “he goes over to my friend [and] gets down on one knee and proposes. She said yes and we all congratulated her but the rest of dinner I was having severe second hand embarrassment.”

These thoughts got the better of her in the end, and she went on to explain how she’d approached her friend while the two were cleaning up, and asked what she’d thought of the proposal, adding “I told her it was weird especially since she’s never watched/liked Spongebob. They haven’t really talked about marriage before so she was completely surprised and I told her that makes it even weirder.”

Her friend was offended, and made the accusation that the original poster just wasn’t “happy for her”.

“I pointed out [that] she seemed embarrassed too during his charade,” she said. It was then revealed that the two hadn’t spoken for the remainder of their evening, and that she still couldn’t understand why her friend had gotten upset, as “a proposal should be romantic, not whatever the f*** that was.”

And of her question as to whether or not she was the bad guy in the situation, her fellow Redditors had plenty to say.

“Are you the proposal police?” one asked. “It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks of the proposal but your friend! When she asked you for your opinion all you had to do was say, ‘as long as you are happy I’m happy for you’ instead you went on a long tirade about how weird it was.”

“What you feel is romantic could well be someone else’s version of horrific. It wasn’t your place to feel second hand embarrassment. It wasn’t your place to tell your friend it was weird,” another chastised. “If she was happy, you should have been happy for her, but instead you’ve made her upset. There was no need for you to do that.”

One was of the mind that while yes, she had been out of line with her sharing her opinion, “that proposal was weird and the fiancé forced people to be a part of it with no heads up? It’s cool if they’re both into bad harmonica music and SpongeBob but keep the proposal private. Or let people know what they’re in for.

“OP [original poster] deserves a trophy for not laughing during. The friend clearly knew it was weird, but asked anyway. OP should have bit her tongue and had this conversation later, but proposing before ever talking about marriage is also strange. Real friends can be honest with each other, but some more tact was needed.”

Images: Getty

The most cringe-worthy moments from the Oscars

On Hollywood’s night of nights, there were many standout moments that had movie fans everywhere cheering on the deserving winners, and those that were rightly dubbed best dressed on the carpet.

However, despite the record-breaking wins and wholesome on-stage moments, it seems not everyone was happy with how the night panned out.

Media personality Piers Morgan had his own hot takes from the night, naming and shaming the most cringe-worthy moments and worst fashion fails.

From awkward moments on the champagne carpet to an endless series of highly questionable outfits, the British broadcaster had some interesting thoughts on the night.

He started his attack on acting legend Hugh Grant, who “humiliated” a reporter during an interview that was very hard to watch.

Hugh Grant was chatting with Ashley Graham in what can only be described as a quintessentially British interview, as he gave short one-worded answers.

Hugh Grant with the greatest Red Carpet interview of all time pic.twitter.com/cK0E8pBcWK

— Jared Christopher (@JaredLChris) March 13, 2023

His reluctance to participate in the back and forth pleasantries infuriated Morgan, as he slammed the actor, saying, “If you don’t want to speak to the media, why the hell walk down the longest red carpet in show business?”

While Piers seemed outraged by the exchange, others simply called it “the greatest interview of all time”, praising Grant for his nonchalance.

Piers also took issue with any kind of light-heartedness on the stage, as he complained about the brief appearance of the “Cocaine Bear”, wishing for it to be “euthanized live on air”.

He also took issue with the overwhelming applause given to Jenny the donkey, known for her role in The Banshees of Inisherin, wondering why the mute mule was given “more applause than most of the overly verbose winners”.

Before the show began, all eyes were on the stars of Hollywood and their jaw-dropping fashion choices as they made their way down the gold carpet.

But unfortunately for some A-listers, their outfits were just not right for the champagne carpet, or even their age.

Rihanna chose to highlight her baby bump with a mixture of sheer tulle and black leather in a bondage-style gown, while Lady Gaga chose to take the drop-waist trend to a whole new level by showing off her ass-ets.

Nicole Kidman left half her dress at home, while accessorising with enormous flowers in places no flowers should ever be.

Eva Longoria left nothing to the imagination with her plunging gown, while Sofia Carson was channelling 2003 bridal couture with her white ball gown.

Allison Williams draped herself in her grandmother’s curtains to pair with her pink lace dress, while singer Tems had no regard for those sitting behind her with her sculptural gown, and Janelle Monae channelled her inner teen with a crop top and clashing skirt.

Despite all the drama on and off the stage, this year’s Oscars was full of deserving winners, heart-warming speeches and (some) stunning fashion moments, leaving us counting down to next year’s awards.

She’d be like ‘Oh, Anthony this, Anthony that’, and I’m like, ‘I don’t care’.”

Shannon's fake eye-roll didn't get a laugh from the crowd, as she insisted, "Just kidding!"

What…the hell…did I just watch? pic.twitter.com/smfqexmcsz

— chris evans (@notcapnamerica) October 26, 2022

She continued, “You guys are so cute together.”

After telling the groom he’d “better take care of my girl”, Shannon turned to the crowd and said, “I’m not gonna be racist, guys, I’m just saying.”

“You guys are outstepping the stereotype and I love it."

“You guys, I swear, I love Black people. You guys. Are. The. Best.”

Shannon went on to say, “My own daughter’s great-aunt is like, the best woman” before concluding, “You guys are amazing, I love you.”

As the video made the rounds online, viewers couldn't believe what they were watching.

“What…the hell…did I just watch?” one person asked.

“I actually gasped out loud! "Extremely cringe": Scott Morrison blasted for musical clip

Death of the Today show? Donald Trump segment leaves viewers cringing

Channel Nine’s Today show just can’t seem to catch a break.

With their already plummeting ratings, the breakfast show chose to air a cringeworthy segment this morning as they featured a Donald Trump impersonator.

Hosts Georgie Gardner and Deborah Knight awkwardly giggled along as comedian John Di Domenico presented his skit of the US president which he tailored for Aussie audiences.

The interview started off confusing straight off the bat as the two hosts didn’t introduce John by his own name, but by claiming that they were interviewing Trump himself.

As they crossed “live” to Washington D.C., John said: “Hello, Australia. I know how much you love me. And I just want to let you love me. And I just want to let you know everything’s going great!”

The President of the United States, @realDonaldTrump has a very special message for all of his Australian fans! 🇺🇸🇺🇸 #9Today pic.twitter.com/1ewYaDIrRK
— The Today Show (@TheTodayShow) June 12, 2019

The actor is known for his impersonations of Trump, which he has been doing for 12 years. He then took aim at the leader of the free world and referenced the Mueller Report.

He also issued a few awkward compliments to the presenters.

“I just wanted to share it with you, my favourite people, the Australians, especially Deb and Georgie, who by the way, you look tremendous. You look really, really incredible. I have to tell you!” he said.

The two, who were in on the joke, then asked the comedian about Trump’s recent visit to the Queen and Scott Morrison’s election win which took the country by surprise.

“Scott Mo. I love that name. That’s a good one, I have to tell you,” said John, who deliberately mispronounced Morrison’s nickname, ScoMo.

Pauline Hanson and Mark Latham leave 60 Minutes viewers cringing: "I'm sick of it"

The country was divided when Mark Latham joined forced with Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party in November, with many wondering how long the odd pairing would last.

Now, four months later the two are seen sharing a laugh and delivering high praise for one another, making those who doubt the unlikely duo cringe at the sight.

Critics believe the two are putting on a façade, and the entire partnership will turn ugly sooner rather than later. According to them, One Nation doesn’t have room for the former Labor Party and former Liberal Democrat Party maverick.

But despite the naysayers, the pair put on a jolly display for their 60 Minutes appearance on Sunday night, shutting down the noise as they claimed to be as united as ever.

Senator Hanson made a point of not backing down due to a “precious few” wanting them to change their ideologies.

“It’s not gonna happen,” she told 60 Minutes.

“Everyone wants to have a go at us because we’re prepared to stand up and speak up for ourselves on policy, and what’s happening in this country.

“But you try to pull us down for whatever little reason … I’m sick of it. I’m over it. Let the people judge us, and they’ll have their say at the ballot box.”

It was at that moment that presenter Liz Hayes interjected, telling them: “You know that the view is that you two cannot last?”

Politics’ odd couple is certainly a surprising union. But @PaulineHansonOz and @RealMarkLatham say they bring different skills to the table and want to improve the politics they say the public is fed up with. #60Mins pic.twitter.com/7EoRsjDmPI
— 60 Minutes Australia (@60Mins) March 10, 2019

“Well you know, what I find curious is the focus on us,” said Lathom.

“I suppose that is because we’re outspoken, we try to speak the truth, and we say things that the lefties in particular don’t like, and we cop all the outrage. The others …

“Because they see us as a threat, Mark,” Hanson cut in.

“That’s what it is. They see us as a threat and it’s all wishful thinking that they want to see us not work together and it’ll sort of finish.”

But their critics were not one to back down, as many showed support behind the notion that their “marriage” wouldn’t last long, and were frustrated that their Sunday night viewing was interrupted by the controversial duo.

Though, not everyone was up in arms, as some said that the pair were “made for each other”.

“Watching #SBS the brilliant program Dr Jane Goodall-my life with chimpanzees. Tempted to switch to #60Mins to see Hanson and Latham but preferred to stay with intelligent life instead,” wrote one witty Aussie on Twitter.

There’s milk in my fridge that’ll last longer than this Hanson/Latham ‘marriage ‘.#60mins
— Former Legend (@Former_legend) March 10, 2019

#60mins lost me today, having these 2 pelicans on, no self respect
— samuel abbs (@abbs_man) March 10, 2019

so many wonderful Australians you can interview and you guys talk to these two buffoons #60mins
— Anna (@spannaforce) March 10, 2019

Latham stood by what he wrote about Hanson before he joined the One Nation Party: “The Hanson persona is a perfect match for the One Nation constituency, resentful, distrustful, and overwhelmingly negative.”

He excused himself by saying the harsh words were due to being a member of the Labor Party at the time with Hanson defending the 58-year-old, saying it was from 18 years ago.

According to Hanson, she saw Latham’s potential when she was first elected in 1996.

“I always imagined Mark to be a future Prime Minister,” she said.

But while the two gushed about each other’s body of work, there was one issue they admit to butt heads over – banning the burqa.

“He doesn’t agree with banning it completely in communities or on streets and that type of things, but we have talked about it and compromised,” said Hanson.

“If they wear it in their own mosque, if they wanna wear it in their own home, Mark didn’t believe that was a real problem. I, you know, think that to wear the full burqa, the full covering, especially getting your driver’s licence or driving a car is not feasible. It’s unworkable. Where it does impact on society is in banks, in government buildings, in schools, in hospitals and these type of things.”

And to prove her point, Hanson infamously wore a burqa into the Senate in 2017.

“The main thing is Pauline whipped it off quickly and that’s what everyone should do,” said Latham.

“Whip it off quickly and get rid of it.”

Did you watch 60 Minutes last night? The cringe-worthy moment you missed between Karl Stefanovic and Kylie Minogue

Karl Stefanovic’s recent interview with Kylie Minogue has been slammed by viewers after he called the music sensation a “hot 50-year-old" and told her to stop dating “good looking d**kheads”.

The 43-year-old TV host also brought a cake and sang happy birthday to Kylie during the cringe-worthy interview on 60 Minutes.

Karl’s onscreen behaviour left some viewers labelling the segment as a “train wreck” and calling on someone more “professional” to take over.

To promote her latest album Golden, Kylie discussed what it feels like to be turning 50 after years spent in the spotlight.

“My friends say 'Do you know what? I'm just going to try to enjoy myself, I'm just going to try love the people I love, do the best I can, understand as best as possible where I am in the world, where I may have stuffed it up, where I am at the moment,’” she said.
Karl replied to her sentiment, “Well, you're doing it very well. I mean, it helps obviously that you're a hot 50-year-old.”

Kylie was left speechless and laughed, “Oh, well, thanks. We try, we try.”

After looking around awkwardly, Kylie then added, “I mean, I don't know what to say to that!”

Karl then moved the conversation on to her failed engagement with British actor Joshua Sasse, telling her to “stop dating incredibly good-looking d**kheads”.

Kylie replied, “I'm thankful. I don't want to go through it again but there's some lessons that take a little while to learn.”

“Is it because I'm 49 and eleven twelfths that I'm becoming a little wiser? I do feel like I've kind of shed a skin.”

Karl then said, “That's why I say that you're incredibly tough, you're resilient and you're a survivor.”

Kylie hesitantly replied, “I think I am, yeah. But there's definitely that fragile side and I don't think that's a bad thing either.”
“'The softer side, the vulnerable side, the side that's able to be hurt,” Karl added,

Kylie said, “Yes, otherwise what's the point? I'm just going for things.”

Later, Karl asked the star, “You look like a woman who loves hard and for you to go through heartbreak, how does it manifest itself in you?”

“I didn't feel very present. You have your tail between your legs a bit, thinking 'rats'," she said.
After the segment aired, viewers were quick to blast the interview, claiming Karl was using it to “creep” on Kylie.

“Karl Stefanovic is being a bit of a creeper in this Kylie interview 'You're a hot 50 yr old' 'Can you stop going out with incredibly handsome d**kheads?'” another added.

“Poor Kylie, what a rubbish interview. Another Stefanovic train wreck of a report,” another viewer wrote.

At the end of the interview, Karl presented a cake to the singer and asked her to say a speech in honour of her 50th in May.

“To be on Planet Earth for 50 years is kind of amazing in itself. And you feel like you didn't draw the short straw and you get to go through life and deal with all of the things that life throws in front of us with some good people around you, that's about as good as it gets,” she said.

Did you watch the interview when it aired? If so, what did you think of Karl’s antics? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
