New royal book pulled from shelves over huge legal blunder

Copies of an explosive new book about the royal family are being pulled from shelves and destroyed after a translation error "accidentally named" the alleged "royal racist". Sales of the new book Endgame, written by Omid Scobie who also wrote Finding Freedom about Harry and Meghan's exit from the royal family, were "temporarily" put on hold just days after its release after what has been labelled an error. According to Xander, the publishers of the Dutch edition of Scobie's book, a translation error led to a member of the royal family being identified as the person who made comments about baby Archie's skin colour. “[We are] temporarily withdrawing the book by Omid Scobie from sale. An error occurred in the Dutch translation and is currently being rectified,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday. Meanwhile, <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/royals/24884315/royal-racist-accidentally-named-omid-scobie/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Sun</a> claims that thousands of copies of the book are now being destroyed as a result. The "racist royal" scandal dates back to when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a tell-all interview in 2021, when Markle alleged that while she was pregnant with their first child, Prince Archie, there were “concerns and conversations” from a member of the royal family about how dark his skin might be. The Duchess of Sussex stopped short of naming the person involved, telling Winfrey, “I think that would be very damaging to them.” In the original edition of his book, Scobie also declines to identify the royal, claiming libel laws prevented him from doing so – although he has confirmed he knows who it is. “I do know who made the comments about Archie’s skin colour,” he told UK program Good Morning during his book press tour. “The names were mentioned in letters between Meghan and Charles that were exchanged sometime after the Oprah interview." “We know from sources that Charles was horrified that that’s how Meghan felt. Those conversations were, and that he wanted to, sort of as a representative for the family, have that conversation with her. “And it is why I personally think they have been able to move forward with some kind of line of communication afterwards. "Nat Bass gaff": Huge national anthem blunder at Bathurst 1000

They say "old habits die hard", and it seems not even celebrities are immune after Natalie Bassingthwaighte made an embarrassing mistake on the grid at the Bathurst 1000. On Sunday, thousand of race fans flocked to Mount Panorama in the Central West of NSW to watch the annual battle between Holden and Ford as the drivers prepared for 161 laps amount the mountain. Before the drivers set off, former Rogue Traders lead singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte stood on the grid to perform the Australian National Anthem. Unfortunately, she appeared to make one major mistake during her performance. On January 1st 2021, the national anthem made a change in the opening verse, with the second line changing from “For we are young and free” to “For we are one and free”. Bassingthwaighte, however, is seemingly a creature of habit as she appeared to sing the old version of the anthem ahead of the historic race. The mistake didn’t get past those watching on from home with several users online pointing out the error. “Oh no Nat Bass gaff during Bathurst national anthem ‘for we are young and free’ and so close to our Voice referendum,” one wrote. Another added, “She sung the old version, not the new one.” The anthem was changed under Scott Morrison's government, who said while announcing the change it was “only right” the anthem reflected and acknowledged First Nations people. “While Australia as a modern nation may be relatively young, our country’s story is ancient, as are the stories of the many First Nations peoples whose stewardship we rightly acknowledge and respect,” Mr Morrison said. “In the spirit of unity, it is only right that we ensure our national anthem reflects this truth and shared appreciation." “Changing ‘young and free’ to ‘one and free’ takes nothing away, but I believe it adds much. Lose your daily itinerary plan For once, send the planner in you on vacation, too, and ditch your carefully planned itinerary. Don’t have your map? Lost your list of the top locations you wanted to see? Perfect. Wandering around aimlessly can be a great way to explore a city and see a little of everything. Don’t waste your time trying to locate your lost list or panicking about it. Instead, walk around, find a local pub, meet some friendly faces and experience the city as a resident might – not a tourist. Aside from the sheer adventure of it, you might end up seeing the city in a whole different way. Embarrass yourself Whether you’re trying to ask for directions in broken Spanish and end up saying something totally insane, or you accidentally walk into the wrong washroom, don’t worry too much about an embarrassing moment. Not only can something like that pull you straight out of your comfort zone and teach you not to sweat the small stuff, but you’ll never have to see most of these people again. And while your embarrassing blunder may not seem funny at the time, it will be when you recount the story for years to come. Get lost Though you should probably try this one out in a safe destination, along with a few companions, getting lost may not be the nightmare you think it is. If you’re looking for an authentic place to eat at a reasonable price, travel suggestions from your hotel map may not have the answer. Instead, look for a place on your own. Walk around and you just may fall into a quaint little place you would never have otherwise discovered. You can even strike up a conversation with a friendly local and get their take on the best restaurants in town. You may even get to know the roads better if you have to find your way back on your own. Visit a country where you're not fluent in the language Why you not challenge yourself by visiting a country where service in English isn’t guaranteed? You’ll want to pack a dictionary (or at the very least a phone loaded with the relevant apps) to help you with key phrases, but don’t fret if you can’t understand the menu word for word. This is a great way to force anyone stuck in a comfort zone rut to try new things, pick up (or even master) a new language, explore new places, and meet new people. You may be surprised by the friendships (and even romances) that can exist between two people who speak different languages. You may also find it to be a rather humbling experience. Lose your tour group Oops! You lost the group and your guide is nowhere in sight. Before you decide to head back to your hotel and give up for the day, try to venture off on your own and discover things a tour group wouldn’t ever see, like a very small, hidden away restaurant with the best pasta in town, or a quiet little park that, although isn’t a special landmark, is beautiful in its own right. Lose your luggage While this one is a little more dependent on the airline than it is on you, the key thing to remember is not to panic if your luggage is lost because it can actually be a good thing. You most likely overpacked anyway, and ditching your heavy suitcase can be a liberating experience. You now have nothing to carry around or keep track of, the opportunity to buy new clothing, and a funny story to tell. Just be sure to keep your passport and money on you so if your luggage is lost, it’s not a complete disaster. Let people know you're a tourist You might want to convince the cab driver you’re a local to avoid getting ripped off, but let’s face it: you’re not fooling anyone. Instead, embrace the tourist title and let people know you’re from out of town. You may be pleasantly surprised with how many locals will try to go out of their way to make your stay in their city an enjoyable one. Internet in stitches at one woman’s dog breed blunder

A woman in the US received quite the surprise when she set out to pick up her new furry friend, expecting to find a fluff ball in the form of a Shih-Tzu-cross-Bichon ‘Shichon’ puppy waiting for her. However, Melissa Windsor’s dreams took a turn when she met the mutt destined to capture her heart, and learned that things don’t always look exactly like they did online. Taking to Facebook to share her story, Melissa posted two pictures - one of the caramel teddy bear puppy she’d been seeking, and another of what she’d received, a scruffy little fellow with an alarming case of bedhead. “Little Roosevelt is four-months-old and looks more like a llama than a teddy bear,” she captioned her post, and the image of the sweet-faced Roosevelt in his pyjamas, “but I love him just the same.” According to Daily Paws, ‘shichons’ are generally small and fluffy, although the cross bread has the potential to produce puppies that have “totally different” appearances across just one litter. The post drew in over 1,000 views, and more than 200 other comments from fellow What I Asked For vs What I Got users. And while some took the opportunity to suggest that Melissa had brought the case of ‘dogfishing’ upon herself, most were every bit as amused as the proud new owner, and took to the comments to share their delight at the tale. One spoke for the masses when they declared that “he’s such a cute mess!” “He's awesomely cute,” another agreed, before elaborating that it was “in a manic Einstein kinda way”. “His hair looks like Kramer from Seinfeld,” one remarked. “Looks like he’s been electrocuted,” someone noted. “Poor buddy looks like me when the coffee hasn't kicked in,” another shared, “fighting with four kids.” One user went on to tell Melissa that their dog looked just like her beloved Roosevelt, asking if it was “possible that he's a mini Aussie doodle?” Some groomers, however, suggested that he just didn’t look like Melissa expected as he hadn’t had his fur tended to just yet. “Grandma meant Elmo”: Cake-maker reveals hilarious baking blunder

An American baker has left the internet in stitches after misreading her customer’s custom cake request, instead delivering a baking blunder for the Sesame Street history books. In a video posted to her TikTok account, Brianna Romero - who is known professionally as Brinni Cakes - confessed her mistake to the world, recounting the story of how a recent order from a grandmother had led her to the creation of her new friend ‘Emo Elmo’. “So my worst nightmare happened,” she said, with audio playing over a timelapse of Brianne constructing another cake. “Last week a lady DMed me and asked me if I could make her an emo cake, and I was thinking ‘yes, of course, I love emo and I love goth, and I know I’ve been perfecting my black frosting so I’m ready for this’.” Brianna went on to explain that she’d gotten all of her customer’s information, and set to work. However, an hour before she was set to deliver the cake, she decided to offer the woman a number candle - an offer that was soon accepted. “She said ‘yes, the cake is for my granddaughter and she’s turning four’”, Brianna explained in the clip. “And I thought that that was a little bit weird, ‘cause I don’t know an emo four year old.” After trying to understand the weird request, Brianna figured that the little girl must just be a fan of something like Netflix’s Wednesday series. Unfortunately, this was not the case. “Something felt wrong,” she noted, before describing how she’d reach out again to ask what the theme of the party was, only to find out it was Sesame Street. “So my heart sinks a little bit because this is now making sense to me,” she said. Huge broadcast blunder sees new footage of late Jock Zonfrillo mistakenly aired

Footage from the delayed Masterchef Australia featuring late host Jock Zonfrillo was accidentally made available for streaming. Channel 10, the network behind the hit cooking competition series, had previously vowed to postpone the series in the wake of Zonfrillo’s death. In a statement shared on social media, they had written that they were “deeply shocked and saddened at the sudden loss”, and that “MasterChef Australia will not air” on its anticipated premiere week- nor any sooner than May 8. However, in a tragic broadcast blunder, 17 minutes of content made it online, showing Zonfrillo alongside his fellow judges - Melissa Leong and Andy Allen - as they welcomed special guest Jamie Oliver, and their contestants. Zonfrillo in particular had presented a former contestant - who had previously left the show in 2021 to prioritise his mental health - with an apron, before asking how he was doing. The clip was removed as fans and mourners drew attention to the mistake, but the damage had been done, and the upset was prevalent. Tim Tam slammed over biscuit blunder

A bemused shopper has caused a stir online with their side-by-side comparison of Tim Tam packets. In a photo posted to Reddit, biscuit fans were met with the horrifying discovery that unless they were buying Tim Tam’s Original line, they were receiving significantly less biscuit for their buck. Two packets had been placed side by side - one Tim Tam’s Original biscuits, the other their Deluxe Dark Choc Mint - to make the disparity in Tim Tam to plastic ratio clear for all to see. In the deluxe pack, eight biscuits could be nestled in the plastic with large gaps between them, typically weighing in at 175g when full. Meanwhile, in the original, 11 could be sandwiched into the packaging, and weighed 200g before any were eaten. Most importantly, both packs - from the outside - appeared to be exactly the same size. “Australia’s biggest scam unwrapped,” <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/12tws3i/australias_biggest_scam_unwrapped/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the post was titled</a>, drawing in over 600 comments, and over 7,000 ‘upvotes’ - the Reddit equivalent of telling fellow users that something is worth a look at. As one put it, “that’s gotta be the most un-Australian Australian thing I’ve ever seen.” “As an American looking at this, it actually bothers me how inefficient the packaging is. You can get so much more in there,” another pointed out. “Stupid amount of plastic for eight biscuits,” one noted. “Honestly just make the packet smaller,” someone suggested, before adding that “this only increases plastic waste. King Charles was faced with an unexpected enquiry while visiting the University of East London's Stratford campus for its 125th anniversary. After unveiling a new plaque at the new hospital and primary care training hub, the 74-year-old monarch was greeting fans and meeting students when one attendee couldn’t hold back any longer and called out, “bring back Harry, please … Can you bring him back, sir?" Embarrassing blunder sees road resurfaced around parked cars

A Melbourne council has been left red-faced after a crew of contract workers made the astounding decision to resurface a residential street while cars were still parked along the roadside. Residents of McBryde Street in Fawkner, Melbourne, were rightly a little surprised to see the clumsy results of the attempted improvements – with the likely cause being the fact that a letter of notification was sent only a few short days before the works were scheduled to commence. It seems that not everyone living on the street received the notification in time, with contractors rolling up to discover several cars still on the street. Instead of delaying the works or requesting the vehicles be moved, the extraordinary decision was made to carry on regardless – and lay the brand new bitumen right around the still-parked cars, with embarrassing results. “It just looks a bit stupid,” said local resident Patt Gibbs to <a href="https://www.9news.com.au/national/merribek-council-melbourne-council-apologises-after-resurfacing-street-around-cars/80810226-b287-4e7f-a869-67daa330abe0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">9News</a> at the time. The radio shock jock was discussing his return to Australian Idol, as he is set to appear on the new season of the show along with judges Harry Connick, Jr Meghan Trainor and Amy Shark. Edwina asked if Kyle would use Mark Holden's famous "touchdown" move, with Kyle initially saying he didn't want to steal it. John Howard responds to Albanese's early campaign blunder

After a less than desirable start to the Labor party's federal election campaign, Anthony Albanese has found an unlikely ally in John Howard. When the Labor leader was unable to name either the unemployment rate or the RBA cash rate at a press conference on Monday, the Liberal party was quick to jump on the blunder. Albanese apologised and said "I'm not sure what it is" before Labor finance spokeswoman Katy Gallagher correctly answered the question. The RBA cash rate is at 0.1 per cent while unemployment currently sits at four per cent. Family traumatised after shocking burial blunder

A South Australian family have been left traumatised after the funeral of a much-loved mother was ruined by an unimaginable mistake. As Debby Giles was being lowered into the ground, her coffin was forced open as the grave was dug 20 centimetres too short. As her family was gathered around the burial site at the time of the blunder, the devastating issue caused Debby's mourning partner Kevin Bartsch to faint. “The lid lifted up a little bit because it scraped on the side of the wall,” Ms Giles’ son Nathaniel Mark told <a href="https://7news.com.au/news/sa/sa-mother-of-six-robbed-of-dignified-send-off-as-coffin-lid-forced-open-in-shocking-burial-blunder-c-6237437" target="_blank" rel="noopener">7News</a>. “The coffin wouldn’t fit in the hole. It was stuck... like a quarter of a way,” Mr Bartsch said. Mr Bartsch was throwing petals onto his late-partner’s coffin, which was tilted diagonally, when he passed out. “They rolled straight off the coffin and then… I don’t know what happened after that,” Mr Bartsch said. The funeral director, who was present at the service, then allegedly began trying to force the coffin into the ground by pushing it down with her hands. “She was on the other side just trying to push it in,” Mr Bartsch said. Mr Bartsch says “it’s going to take a long time” before the image of that moment ceases to haunt him. Those at the burial site were then asked to leave so the coffin could be removed from its awkward position and the gravesite size corrected. Debby's body was then buried without her loved ones present, with the grieving family saying the cultural significance of physically witnessing Ms Giles’ burial on their land was something that was taken from them. The funeral home blamed the local council for the mistake, with the Mid-Murray Council admitting fault and offering the family compensation. In the segment, which happened last week, Ally and her co-host Karl Stefanovic were chatting with two gardening experts about how to properly care for your lawn. At Thursday night's Australian Open match, Ash Barty bulldozed her way into the finals in a historic win against American Madison Keys. However, Barty had the limelight stolen by an unsuspecting sporting legend in the crowd: former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh. TV cameras panned to Waugh and showed him tucking into an ice cream cone, licking his lips and giving a nod of approval. The rough and tough sporting champ, who became known as the Ice Man in his playing days after coining the term "mental disintegration" to sledge opponents, let his guard down for a brief moment and the internet was flooded with hilarious reactions. Bank blunder loses couple their dream home and huge deposit

A Queensland couple has been left without their dream home or their deposit after their bank missed a settlement deadline. Newly-engaged couple Mark Trau and Maddie Goyder thought they had found their new dream home after handing over a $75,000 deposit for the $900,065 property in Jindalee, Brisbane. However, their bank, Westpac, failed to meet the settlement deadline that would secure the house for Ms Goyder and Mr Trau. The couple ended up losing the house and their deposit as a result. “It was everything to us. It was our future home, a place to have a family one day,” Ms Goyder said. Mr Trau confirmed that they were devastated. “We threw everything at this. The bank was the one thing that stopped it from happening on the day,” he said. Unlike other states where there is a two-week grace period if the settlement falls through, Queensland has no such allowance. Lawyer Aaron Roberts said new laws should be introduced to protect home-buyers while holding banks to account. “It definitely needs looking at how we can protect all parties involved and place accountability where it should be,” he said. He added that the extra pressure banks are experiencing at the moment shouldn’t mean that the buyer suffers. “We understand there is a lot of financing happening at the moment, so the banks are being put under pressure and writing loans like crazy,” Mr Roberts said. After seeking legal assistance, Mr Trau and Ms Goyders unsuccessfully appealed to Westpac for reimbursement. But, within 24 hours of <a rel="noopener" href="https://www.9news.com.au/national/queensland-couple-lose-dream-home-and-thousands-in-deposit-after-bank-blunder/7f29d2c1-8b95-4a43-822b-c4b2ad20ad9d" target="_blank">9News</a> reaching out to the bank, it rounded up the deposit and paid the couple $100,000. United States President Joe Biden has seemingly forgotten Scott Morrison's name in an historic press conference. The joint announcement with the UK, US and Australia saw the three politicians come together for a virtual press conference to discuss their new trilateral security partnership. The announcement shadowed a statement of Scott Morrison's on Thursday, as he confirmed that Australia would be utilising British and American technology to build its next fleet, replacing the existing Collins class submarines. The Prime Minister made it clear that Australia was not planning to create any nuclear weapons or a civil nuclear capability, and will abide by all non-proliferation obligations. New Zealand’s Covid-19 response minister Chris Hipkins has given the nation “a reason to laugh” after giving some x-rated health advice on the Delta outbreak. Mr Hipkins was caught in his hilarious blunder while reminding people of the strict COVID-19 restrictions. His humorous moment saw him telling the nation they should social distance when they go outside to “spread their legs”. "It is a challenge for people in high density areas to get outside and spread their legs when they are surrounded by other people," he accidentally told reporters at the live press conference on Sunday.
