Nelson Mandela's granddaughter accuses Sussexes of "stealing" famous quotes

Nelson Mandela's granddaughter has torn into Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, accusing them of “stealing" the statesman's words and using his name to “make millions”.

Ndileka Mandela, 57, slammed the Sussexes over the Netflix documentary Live To Lead, where the couple use footage of Mandela leaving prison in 1990.

Harry says in the trailer for their latest film, part of their $100million (£83million) deal with the streaming giant: “This was inspired by Nelson Mandela”.

Ndileka said she was angry that the couple appear to compare their own battles in the Royal Family with her grandfather's long walk to freedom, calling it “upsetting and tedious”.

She said: “That's chalk and cheese, there is no comparison. I know the Nelson Mandela Foundation has supported the initiative but people have stolen grandfather's quotes for years and have used his legacy because they know his name sells – Harry and Meghan are no different from them”.

She added in an interview with The Australian: “I admire Harry for having the confidence to break away from an institution as iconic as the Royal Family. Grandad rebelled against an arranged marriage to find his own path in life.

“But it comes at a price, you have to then fund your own life, I've made peace with people using granddad's name but it's still deeply upsetting and tedious every time it happens”.

In the trailer for Live To Lead, co-produced by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Harry quotes Mandela and says: “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we’ve lived”.

Meghan then appears on screen and finishes the quote: “It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead”.

The couple were both executive producers, according to the credits, and introduce each of the episodes, talking over the opening credits.

Image: Getty

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle release Christmas card

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have released their Christmas card which didn’t include their two children.

The Christmas card was delivered to Archewell subscribers via email wishing everyone a joyful holiday season.

“Wishing you a joyful holiday season,” the card read.

“From our family to yours, and on behalf of our teams at The Archewell Foundation, Archewell Audio, and Archwell Productions, we wish you health, peace, and a very happy new year!”

However, many pointed out that the card was missing a photo of their children - Archie, 3, and daughter, Lilibet, 1.

“I wonder why, as it’s from their family to yours that 2 of their immediate family (children) are missing from the card,” someone wrote.

“Where are the children?” another asked.

On the other hand, many said that the Christmas card is the Sussexes business one and they may release another with Archie and Lilibet.

“This looks to be an official business holiday card not their official family holiday card,” someone pointed out.

“That’s their business holiday card. No doubt they’ll have a family card as well. It’s a very common practice,” another wrote.

It is believed that Archie and Lilibet were left off the card because of their “basic right to privacy”.

Meghan previously spoke about her children’s privacy in the 2021 tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey about how “comfortable” she is or isn’t sharing photos of her children.

“If you’re at work and you have a photograph of your child on your desk, and your co-worker says, ‘Oh, my gosh, your kid’s so cute. That’s fantastic! Can I see your phone so I can see all the pictures of your child?’ You go, ‘No. This is the picture I’m comfortable sharing with you’,” she said.

“And then if they double down and say, ‘No, but you already showed me that one. So you have to show me everything. You know what, I’m just gonna hire someone to sit in front of your house, or hide in the bushes and take pictures into your backyard, because you’ve lost your right to privacy … because you shared one image with me’.”

She also previously mentioned how she didn’t want her children to be the subject of racial slurs which she claims were used by the British media.

“Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my child before I can share it with the people that love my child?” Meghan told the Cut back in August.

Image: Archwell Productions

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s home targetted by intruders

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s California mansion has been the target of intruders twice in just two weeks.

The Sussexes were inside their $14 million mansion in the town of Montecito with their children Archie, three, and Lilibet, one when the alarm went off.

Santa Barbara Police arrived at the home on May 19 at 5:44pm following reports of a trespasser.

Then 12 days later on May 31 at 3.21pm, the alarm was once again triggered, just hours before the Sussexes were due to leave for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Police attended the home once again and reported the incidents as trespassing, property crimes and “suspicious circumstances” by police.

Their mansion has been broken into a total of six times in 14 months.

It comes as Prince Harry won a case to sue the Home Office who cut his police protection after he left the Royal Family.

Shaeed Fatima QC, who is representing Harry in court, said the Prince believes the Queen’s private secretary, Sir Edward Young “should not have been involved” in the decision.

The couple have had to hire ex-President Barack Obama's former bodyguard Christopher Sanchez and Michael Jackson's former security chief Alberto Alvarez to keep them safe.

Images: Getty/Sotheby's International Realty

Frustrated parents call out Duke and Duchess of Sussex

The clue in Archie’s name that gave away the Sussex’s plans to leave

It’s the best that could be hoped for,” she explained.

“At least she’s telling us they will be part of her family. She couldn’t have done anything else. There was a gun to her head.”

Prince Charles and Prince William “incandescent” over Sussexes’ exit plan

Prince Charles and Prince William were reportedly “incandescent” after Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan announced their resignation from their royal family roles the day before Duchess Kate’s 38th birthday.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement on Wednesday saying they intend to quit as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family, “work to become financially independent” and live between the United Kingdom and North America.

A senior royal source told The Sun that the couple’s announcement had not been approved by the royal family.

“Their statement was not cleared with anyone. It breaks all protocol. This is a declaration of war on the family,” the source said.

“There is fury over how they’ve done this without any thought for the implications for the institution. The Queen is deeply upset. The Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge are incandescent with rage.

“Courtiers can’t believe it. Duke and Duchess of Sussex told the Queen “they will not spend Archie's first Christmas with her at Sandringham”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly told the Queen that they will not be spending Archie’s first Christmas with the monarch at her home in Norfolk.

It’s a move that royal experts have said is “very telling”.

The Sussexes will be taking a six-week break after Prince Harry’s last royal engagement and are likely to travel to the US and spend Thanksgiving with Meghan’s mother Doria, 63.

It had initially been thought that the family of three would return to Sandringham for Christmas, but they informed the Queen and Prince Philip of their plans to skip the family festivities.

Phil Dampier, author of the book Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan In Their Own Words, told MailOnline: “If they had something else lined up, like a big family Christmas with her family and it was their turn, you could understand them dropping out, rather like William and Kate sometimes spend the day with the Middletons.

“But of course Meghan is estranged from everyone in her family apart from her mother, who they will probably see during their six-week break.

“So if they just don’t want to be with the Queen and the rest of the royals it is very telling and worrying.

“Maybe they will have time to reflect on their problems in the coming weeks and hopefully realise that thinking of themselves as victims and outsiders is not helping anyone.

“All families have their tensions at Christmas of course but this one is played out in the eyes of the world.”

View this post on Instagram

This evening, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the annual #WellChildAwards in London. What Baby Sussex Archie's star sign means

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, on Monday – and astrologers have wasted no time in analysing what the stars hold for Baby Sussex.

Archie was born on May 6 at approximately 5.26 am – which means that he is a Taurean, joining the likes of Queen Elizabeth, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. He is a Taurus sun, Gemini moon and Taurus rising.

The Taurus personality is characterised by qualities such as solidity, level-headedness and perseverance, as well as a penchant for self-indulgence and practicality.

According to astrologer Randon Rosenbohm, this means that Archie will “appreciate the material luxuries” of being royalty.

“With his moon in Gemini in the second house, I think this is a very intelligent baby who will spend a lot of money on things,” she told The Cut.

AstroTwins astrologer and author Ophira Edut agreed that Taurus is “a sign that's suited for royal child life”.

She told OprahMag.com, “Tauruses like the finer things, traditions and conventions. They can be kind of active as kids and pretty restless, but they do grow into the role well, so it's a good coincidence.”

However, a deeper look into Archie’s birth chart shows that the newborn may be a Taurean of his own kind.

“The royal baby is a very different kind of Taurus than his relatives,” said OprahMag.com resident astrologer Chani Nicholas.

“This is because he has the sun conjunct Uranus, the planet of rebellion, upheaval, change and awakening. It’s a signature of being anti-tradition. His late grandmother, Princess Diana, was also very much her own person, able to carve out a place for herself outside of being in the royal family. This little one may share some of that innovative and rebellious flair.”

The baby also seems to be set for greatness. Astrologers Monte Farber and Amy Zerner said Archie will grow up to become “one of the greatest intellects and orators ever to be a part of the Royal Family”, thanks to Gemini being his moon sign and in the First House of his chart.

Considering Duchess Meghan’s Leo sign, astrologer Lisa Stardust believed that she will feel like “home” to her son.

“He will have a materialistic view on self-esteem ingrained in him by his mother, but he’s a royal so it’s not too out of the ordinary,” Stardust told Cosmopolitan.

“His mother will challenge him and be more like a BFF than anything, offering advice throughout his life.”

It’s the moment everyone has been eagerly waiting for: The first pics and name of newborn Baby Sussex.

Ever since news broke in October that Duchess Meghan was pregnant with her and Prince Harry’s first child, bets on the gender and potential name started taking place.

The royal couple chose a somewhat unconventional name for a royal offspring, naming their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The pair took to Instagram to introduce baby Archie to the world, followed by a heartwarming photograph of great-grandparents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, looking positively ecstatic as they met the two-day-old baby boy.

View this post on Instagram

Today The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are delighted to share their first public moment as a family. Using a nickname as the child’s first name paid tribute to Meghan’s American roots, as it’s more casual and laidback.

The baby’s middle name, Harrison, dates back to the Middle Ages and simply means “son of Harry”.

The surname Mountbatten-Windsor is the family surname and belongs to all children and descendants of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex introduced their first-born to the world on Wednesday in St. George’s Hall. Harry cradled his son while Meghan beamed beside him, wearing a white sleeveless dress by British designer Grace Wales Bonner.

“It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing. I have the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy,” said Meghan.

“He has the sweetest temperament,” she went on to say. “He’s really calm”.

Harry then cheekily added: “I don’t know where he gets that from!”

When asked who the baby takes after, the 37-year-old said: “We’re still trying to figure that out.”

Harry then said: “Everyone says babies change so much over two weeks. We’re basically monitoring how the changing process happens over this next month, really. His looks are changing every single day, so who knows?”

And when it comes to parenting, Harry said: “It’s great. Parenting is amazing. It’s only been two and a half days, but we’re just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy.”

Meghan concluded the special moment by saying: “Thank you everyone for all the well wishes and the kindness. It means so much.”

Scroll through the gallery above to see the heartwarming photos of the Sussex family.
