Kate Ritchie drops huge career news

Kate Ritchie has confirmed the rumours that she will be joining Nova's Fitzy & Wippa.

The radio presenter, who stepped away from her drive-time show Kate, Tim & Joel in October for health reasons, made the announcement on-air on Friday morning alongside her new co-hosts Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli.

“It is so nice to be here, it’s been a long time and I’m excited to be back in the studio making radio,” Ritchie said.

“A bit of time off has made me realise I love doing a bit of broadcasting, and I’m now looking forward to doing it with you guys.”

Ritchie co-hosted the show for the remainder of Friday morning, before officially joining the team from next week when the show will be known as Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie.

In the wake of Ritchie leaving the drive show, singer and former Australian Idol contestant Ricki-Lee Coulter will join Tim Blackwell and Joel Creasey on the drive-time radio program.

Coulter replaced Kate Ritchie's long-standing role, meaning the show will now be renamed the Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel show.

Coulter said in a statement, “I love Tim and Joel like the brothers I never had but always wanted, and I have been having so much fun in the studio with them – they are the best in the business. I have so much love for Kate and I’m so happy I’ve been able to help out on the drive show over the last year. I am pumped to be officially joining the Nova family.”

Blackwell and Creasey said of their new co-host, “Is there anything this girl can’t do? We’re so stoked that Ricki-Lee can fit us in around her current schedule of world domination. Music, TV and now radio with us."

“Her energy gets us all up and about each and every day. Fingers crossed we can both keep up.”

Kyle and Jackie O slam Nova reshuffling "chaos"

Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O have taken aim at the chaotic Nova reshuffling, openly discussing the radio industry gossip on their own program.

The drama has stemmed from Kate Ritchie's extended absence from Nova coming to a close, which has resulted in the exit of one of Nova's most popular and dedicated on-air talents, Sarah McGilvray.

McGilvray was reportedly "squeezed out" of her position on the Fitzy & Wippa breakfast show to make way for Ritchie upon her return, as she is being drafted as Sarah's replacement.

Fitzy and Wippa, also known as Ryan 'Fitzy' Fitzgerald and Michael 'Wippa' Wipfli , are reportedly unhappy with the switch as they remain loyal to McGilvray.

Speaking about the changes at Nova on Thursday, Kyle Sandilands expressed sadness that McGilvray - a former producer for Kyle and Jackie O - had been pushed out in the reshuffle.

His co-host Jackie 'O' Henderson also confirmed the long-standing rumour that Ritchie is being replaced on her previous drive time slot by her regular fill-in Ricki-Lee Coulter.

"They're all topsy-turvy over at Nova apparently. All s**t's gone loose over there," Sandilands said at the start of the discussion.

Sandilands added, "I think they're putting that chick from Home and Away [Ritchie] on the breakfast show is what I've heard."

Henderson confirmed it wasn't just a rumour, saying, "Yeah, they are."

The pair continued to speculate back and forth about the reasoning behind the swap, before being censored on air.

Kyle said, "We probably shouldn't even be talking about this on air, but we will 'cause everyone cares about this stuff. I heard that Kate wasn't..."

The live broadcast was then censored by a two-second beep, which was presumably done by a producer for legal reasons.

Sandilands continued, "...show, and Nova had her on a contract and didn't know what to do with her, so a**e-holed Sarah, who's doing a great job, to squeeze Kate in with Fitzy and Wippa - and they weren't a fan of that either."

Henderson interrupted to say "this is getting too gossipy" and "nasty".

Ritchie announced last year she was taking a break from the Kate, Tim & Joel drive time program to focus on her health, but sources at the network said she wouldn't be returning.

Ritchie has remained silent on her return date, despite teasing in January she would be back on air with her co-hosts Creasey and Blackwell in a matter of weeks.

Chrissie, Sam & Browny to leave popular breakfast show

Nova’s breakfast show program featuring Chrissie Swan, Sam Pang and Jonathan ‘Browny’ Brown will stop airing at the end of the year after a huge seven years.

The trio announced the bombshell news to listeners on Friday morning - just hours after their colleague Kate Richie revealed that she is stepping back from the spotlight of her Nova FM show.

Chrissie, Sam & Browny’s last show will air on December 2 after their show sat on the #1 FM or #2 FM Melbourne breakfast show 19 times since it launched back in 2015.

This has now raised questions on whether or not Chrissie will be spending more time on The Project next year after Carrie Bickmore leaves the show at the end of the year.

Chrissie however will not be leaving the Nova Network entirely saying she is excited for her new adventure.

“I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved professionally and personally since we first met in 2015 – especially the last few years as we all kept each other afloat during the pandemic,” she said.

“I’m thrilled to now put a bow on the absolute gift of the Chrissie, Sam & Browny experience and am looking forward to a new adventure with Nova.”

Sam also said he is looking forward to “sleeping in” after years of waking up early to host the radio show.

“It’s been a privilege doing breakfast radio in my hometown. I’ve loved my time at Nova and I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the show over the past seven years,” he said.

“I would especially like to thank the listeners for their support. It has been a wonderful experience. I’ve made some life-long friends and feel very lucky to have worked with such an amazing team.”

Jonathan however will remain at the network as he continues to work with the Fox Footy team.

“When the opportunity presented itself to work alongside Chrissie, Sam and Deano seven years ago it cemented my family’s decision to make the move to Melbourne and start a new chapter post-footy,” he said.

“I’ve shared some life-changing moments with our listeners and the team have become like family to me.

“I’m grateful to the Nova family and our listeners for the opportunities in both Brisbane and Melbourne over the past 17 years and finish up feeling proud of what we’ve created together.”

Image: Nova

How the world has turned against Michael Jackson after Leaving Neverland documentary

As the controversial new documentary Leaving Neverland hit Australian televisions late last week, the documentary has already had a ripple effect all around the globe.

The film documents the experiences of two men who claim that they were sexually abused by Jackson when they were young.

The documentary is four hours in total and goes into explicit detail about the Neverland Ranch, as well as the experiences of the two men and what treatment Jackson inflicted upon them.

The reactions around the world have divided people into two camps. One camp is saying that they can no longer support Jackson and are questioning why this was allowed to go on for so long. Others have said that since Jackson is unable to defend himself due to his death, this is unfair and tarnishes the star’s name.

No matter what you believe, many celebrities around the world, as well as prolific TV shows and radio stations, are removing Michael Jackson from their brand, lineup and playlists.

The Simpsons have cut an iconic episode that used Jackson’s voice

The producers of The Simpsons have felt that they have no other choice after the airing of the documentary.

The episode “Stark Raving Dad” was aired in 1991 and featured a mental patient that was voiced by Jackson who meets Homer Simpson in a mental institution.
