Jeweller shares the cost of Albo's custom engagement ring

A jewellery expert has shared the estimated cost of the custom diamond ring Anthony Albanese bought to propose to his long-term partner Jodie Haydon.

The Prime Minister shared the heart-warming news of the engagement on Valentine's Day, sharing a loved up snap of the happy couple, as Jodie showed off her ring.

Albo revealed he chose Nicola Cerrone’s Leichhardt-based Cerrone Jewellers store to design the diamond ring before popping the question.

Now, a different NSW jeweller has shared their estimated cost of the impressive diamond, telling NCA NewsWire the ring could be worth up to $240,000.

The jeweller, who wished to remain anonymous, admitted diamonds are incredibly varied in terms of pricing depending on colour, cut and clarity and difficult to evaluate from an image, but they confirmed Mr Albanese didn’t appear to spare any expense.

“This looks to be roughly a 3ct Round Brilliant Cut Diamond on an 18ct Rose Gold Band,” the jeweller said.

“The ring is a four prong solitaire with a slightly wider band - definitely a very popular style at the moment!”
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Albo's eye-watering pay rise revealed

Anthony Albanese has received a massive pay rise, along with several other Federal MPs, in the biggest pay rise for politicians in a decade.

The Prime Minister and his deputy Richard Marles have scored a big pay pump which will increase their pay to $586,768 and $432,860 respectively.

The pay increase for all politicians is four percent, which is the heftiest single pay rise in almost 10 years, taking the base salary of a backbencher from $217,000 to $225,680.

Under the changes, Albo will score a $22,568 a year pay rise, while his deputy Richard Marles will score a $16,000 pay rise from September 1st.

The Remuneration Tribunal, the body that determines the pay and entitlements of public office holders, announced the decision on Monday afternoon citing cost of living pressures as one factor for the increase.

“The Tribunal has decided to increase remuneration by 4 per cent for public offices in its jurisdiction. This increase applies from 1 July 2023 for all offices except Federal Members of Parliament (MPs), which applies from 1 September 2023," a spokesman said.

“The Tribunal completed its last review of remuneration for public offices in its jurisdiction in June 2022 and determined an adjustment of 2.75 per cent would apply from 1 July 2022. The Tribunal made no adjustment in the preceding two years."

“The Tribunal is aware that the remuneration increases it has awarded to offices in its jurisdiction over the past decade have been conservative," a spokesman said.

Despite the Tribunal's justification for the increase, the news of the pay rise has come at a difficult time for the Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, as revelations emerged that he was booking military planes to pick him up and drop him off at Avalon airport closer to his home in Geelong saving himself a one-hour chauffeur-driven car ride from Melbourne.

The flights are contributing to a staggering $3.6 million bill for Mr Marles’ VIP private plane costs since last year alone.

Albo and Waleed Aly descend into shouting match

In a fiery live TV interview, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese engaged in a clash with Waleed Aly from The Project, as he faced tough questions regarding a contentious housing policy related to rent caps.

During the interview, Mr Albanese found himself caught in the middle of a political dispute between the Labor party and the Greens. The minor party was holding a significant housing policy, which proposes rent caps, as a bargaining chip for the passage of the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF) in the senate.

Refusing to rule out the possibility of an early election should the Greens block the bill, the Prime Minister faced Aly's scrutiny about the Greens' demands. Aly pointed out that the Greens were requesting the government to allocate $2.5 billion to incentivise rent caps rather than enforce legislative changes, as certain aspects, like rent caps, fall within the jurisdiction of state governments.

“The problem with that Waleed is that we put $2bn on the table for states and territories in June,” countered Mr Albanese.

The pair then went back and forth shouting over each other for 20 seconds before Aly cut in with his question: “Are you philosophically opposed to the rent caps and the idea of capping rent increases … and therefore won’t use your megaphone for it?”

Mr Albanese began to answer before he turned on the host.

“Waleed, that’s not the question. The question here is states and territories will look at measures for renters and renters rights” he said.

“I want to see increased renters rights, if that’s what you’re asking me, but there are six states and two territories, all whom have different systems in place.”

Despite Aly's persistence, a clear answer regarding the Prime Minister's stance on rent caps remained elusive, and the conversation shifted to another contentious topic – the recent deaths of four Australian soldiers in a helicopter accident in Queensland.

Aly probed whether Australia had a habit of paying a premium for subpar military equipment, to which Mr Albanese redirected the discussion by emphasising the importance of respecting the families who had lost their loved ones that day.

When Aly pressed further, suggesting that the families of defence force members deserved answers, Mr Albanese reassured that an appropriate investigation would take place, and necessary actions would be taken but stated that it was not the day for speculation on the matter.

“Today’s the day we’ll leave with respect where we’re dealing with four families who’ve lost loved ones. Today’s a day to think of those families ... there‘ll be an appropriate investigation on that, and appropriate responses... today’s not the day for me to speculate about what has occurred.”

The interview concluded with several important questions left unanswered, leaving viewers with lingering uncertainties about the Prime Minister's stance on rent caps and the issue of military equipment quality.

Images: The Project

Ben Fordham clashes with Albo over the Voice to Parliament

Ben Fordham has clashed with Anthony Albanese over the logistics of the Voice to Parliament in a fiery 40 minute interview.

The radio shock jock interrogated the prime minister over how much influence the Voice will have if it is voted in by the public, with the pair clashing live on air.

In the blistering interview, Fordham asked Albo about flagging support for the Voice to parliament and whether the model of Indigenous recognition and advisory body should be changed.

“We know that when the Voice asks for something that you don't like, you’re going to say no anyway, so why not lead at a time like this and don’t risk the very important recognition in the constitution for Indigenous Australians by getting it tied up with the Voice?” Mr Fordham asked.

“When you have a look at those numbers, it's falling through the floor, so why not use your power as Prime Minister … legislate the voice and let us vote on recognition.”
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; You’re in a position to make a difference and (fight) to help it succeed, as (are) other people in the media, by talking what it’s about, not by raising things that are not going to be relevant.”

In recent months, the government has faced a barrage of questions from the opposition about the extent of influence the Voice will have, should Australians agree to establish the body in a vote at the end of the year.

Fordham continued his questions as he asked if the Voice would have certain powers, which have been outlined by the "yes" campaign.

“I wonder if you agree with them on some of the following points … yes or no, will the voice be able to speak directly to the RBA?” the radio host asked.

“I can't talk directly to the RBA board and I’m the Prime Minister … Can I just make this point because I know where you’re reading from. You’re reading from the ‘no’ pamphlet,” Mr Albanese responded.

Mr Fordham hit back and slammed the Labor leader for accusing him of not doing his own homework, saying, “Excuse me Prime Minister … I'm reading from my own questions that I have written so I don’t misquote people.”

Albanese concluded his rant, slamming much of the media coverage around the Voice, and condemning many seemingly irrelevant conversations around the matter, saying, “We have had a debate about things that aren’t happening rather than about things that are.”

Image credits: Getty Images / Instagram

Matildas bet on Albo’s public holiday promise

When Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese first floated the idea of a public holiday for soccer success with the Socceroos and the Men’s World Cup, fans all over were eager for the chance to celebrate.

And now, with the Women’s World Cup approaching, all eyes have turned to the Matildas as they strive for victory, with some asking if the public holiday promise extends to the nation’s beloved women’s team, too.

And while speaking to The Daily Aus, Albanese had the answer that many were hoping for. However, the promise came with just one major condition - the Matildas had to secure victory.

“It’s up to each state and territory to designate public holidays,” he said. “But rest assured - should the Matildas win the World Cup on home soil, I reckon there will be a race by Premiers to declare a public holiday.”

And the Matildas were quick to prove themselves up to the challenge, responding to a social media recap on the situation to write “Bet”, along with a handshake emoji.
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; “I didn't understand it”: Albo opens up about blindsiding divorce

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has candidly opened up about the difficult days after his ex-wife asked for a divorce.

Albo shared how he was blindsided by his wife’s request, after 19 years of marriage and 30 years together.

Following their marriage breakdown on New Year's Day in 2019, Albo shared that he went overseas for two weeks and even considered quitting politics entirely.

He said he was shocked by the revelation that his ex-wife, former deputy NSW premier Carmel Tebbutt, wasn’t happy in their marriage.

“I didn't understand it, but I came to accept it,” the PM told Melbourne's Triple M radio.

After Tebbutt asked for the divorce, Albo travelled to London for a week to visit friends before journeying on to Lisbon in Portugal.

“It was two weeks to clear the air, determine what I wanted to do with my life, decide whether I wanted to run again in the election,” he said.

He made the decision to come home and throw himself into public life, announcing a run for the top job in the lead up to the 2022 election.

Along the road to his election victory, Albo found love again with Jodie Haydon after the pair met at an event in Melbourne.

The PM said he was always open to finding love again, but was concerned about his public image.

“I never did Tinder,” Mr Albanese said, acknowledging it would be “fine” for him to use it - “except [everyone] would know about it”.

He said, “It was [incredibly challenging], but you live in the public eye. It was very difficult for me personally, but Carmel made a decision that she wanted to move on with her life... our son had reached 18, he'd graduated from school.”

“It was a decision I found difficult but one she obviously had the right to do.”

In spite of the heartache, Mr Albanese and Ms Tebbutt do appear to be on good terms.

They famously share custody of their dog, Toto, and Ms Tebbutt was seen on the campaign trail for Labor during the election.

As for his new relationship, Mr Albanese said it's “fantastic” that he “has someone to spend his personal life with”, along with his son Nathan, particularly given the complex challenges that come with running a country.

“I'm most proud of my resilience,” he said. “I've hung in there, I've stayed true to my values and I think I've made a difference.”

Albo denies plastic surgery rumours

Anthony Albanese has denied rumours that he has had botox done and that his best weight loss secret is to cut the carbs and “give up the bread”.

The Australian Prime Minister appeared on NovaFM’s Fitzy and Wippa where he spoke about his weight loss journey.

The presenters then pointed out that an article written by the Daily Mail caught their attention in which it questioned whether or not Mr Albanese had botox done.

“It was a headline that struck us, Prime Minister, in the Daily Mail, ‘Botox fillers or just clean living? Albo debuts a fresh new look as he sports a smoother complexion following his weight loss and style transformation’.

“Have you had Botox and how many fillers have you had, Prime Minister?’’ they asked him.

Mr Albanese laughed off the claim and instead took a dig at the reporter and the leading cosmetic injector.

“Seriously, I think whoever wrote that article's been having Botox in the wrong place,” he said.

He went on to talk about how a near death experience in which he was involved in a car crash, caused him to take charge of his health.

“For anybody listening right there might be carrying a couple of kilos. What was your one tip or secret that you had to the weight loss?’’ he was probed.

“Don’t eat the bread,’’ the Prime Minister replied.

“I just had two boiled eggs for breakfast. It keeps you going to lunchtime.

“Stopping eating in between meals is the big thing.”

Mr Albanese confessed that he still indulged every now and then with beer and hot chips, but all in moderation.

“I get to have a beer every now and then. Both light and heavy,’’ he said.

“I have the odd hot chip and all of that. Not be too religious about it. It took a long period. It was over 18 months. But the real motivation, I don’t recommend this, was having a near life ending car crash.

“And that was a real wake up call to get fit and get healthy. It’s worked. I feel much better for it and I just feel much better in the morning but much better throughout the day.”

Image: Getty

"You just asked me": Albo and Ally's tense exchange

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has snapped back at Ally Langdon during a tense moment while he was being interviewed on the Today show.

Mr Albanese appeared on the Channel 9 morning show to discuss several topics, one including the fallout from the recent revelations that former PM Scott Morrison had secretly appointed himself to five ministries.

Ally broached the topic by asking the Prime Minister Albanese whether he would call a Royal Commission into how all levels of government handled the recent Covid-19 pandemic. She then raised John Howard's comments from earlier in the week, which Mr Albanese quickly dismissed as being those of a “loyal Liberal” and said when asked about Mr Morrison he will give an answer.

Ally Langdon went on to question whether “the bloke you beat” should be the Prime Minister’s top priority, considering Australia's energy crisis and homelessness issues.

The PM immediately took the issue with Langdon's line of questioning, declaring that he was only talking about the controversy because Langdon had asked about it.

“You just asked me the question, Ally, about Scott Morrison and I gave you the answer. If you ask me a question about inflation or about the economy, I‘ll give you an answer about that as well.

“This isn’t an issue that I chose to raise.”

Ally quickly switched topics to something a little more light-hearted, discussing whether the NRL Grand Final would remain in NSW this year.

Image: Sunrise

Aussies fuming as Albo takes a break just 11 weeks into the job

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is under fire for taking a break from his job JUST 11 weeks in.

After winning the election with soaring figures on May 21, Mr Albanese announced on August 5 that he will be taking a break with Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles covering for him.

Mr Albanese jetsetted across the country with his girlfriend Jodie Haydon to Perth and spent Sunday night at the world-renowned Sydney Cove Oyster Bar.

The restaurant’s Facebook page shared a photo of the Prime Minister with the workers announcing that they had the pleasure of hosting him.

“Last night we had the pleasure of having the Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his partner Jodie Haydon joining us for a romantic dinner on the outside deck,” the caption read.

“Much to our surprise they knew about our story and the move from Circular Quay to Broome.

“At the end of their dinner he politely offered us a chance for a quick photo and we couldn’t resist.”

Then on Monday, Mr Albanese was spotted at the Art Above exhibition as they spoke to local artists.

He also gave a speech about how important art is for different communities.

Several photos show him and Jodie intrigued in conversation with the organisers of the event who also shared an announcement online.

“Well… it’s not every day you get to yarn to the PM about your art, women’s footy and your story of how it all began,” the caption read.

“@albomp and Jodie Hayden were perfectly humble, curious and kind - and so generous with their time to engage with all of our KAN artists at the Art Above the 26th exhibition while on holiday here.

“The PM gave an impromptu speech about the significant role art plays in communities - including the importance of art about women’s footy.

“And yes! It is important. This is a huge moment in our history that deserves to be duly noted for the benefits to our communities of people coming together.”

It seems that Mr Albanese’s break was not taken lightly by Aussies as the cost of living soars, with grocery prices and gas prices peaking.

Many took to social media to call out the Prime Minister for abandoning Australians so early into his new job.

“A break from what? Lousy good for nothing imposter,” one wrote.

“I remember when he hit back at criticism over his globetrotting overseas travel insisting he hasn’t ‘had a day off in a very long period of time’. He’s just getting in early so as to avoid criticism. He really should learn to read the mood,” another commented.

“You have got to be joking. 32% primary vote, higher electricity prices, higher food prices and higher interest rates equates to a job well done so it’s time to have a break. Really?” someone else wrote.

“Needs a holiday after all his overseas holidays he’s just been on,” another comment read.

Others however said Mr Albanese deserved the break while they shut down any comparison with former prime minister Scott Morrison.

“He’s done more in a month than Morrison did in three years,” one pointed out.

“Good - he's earned it. He's done more in 9 weeks than the LNP did in 9 years. He has a competent team. Hope he enjoys his break,” another commented.

“Great news. Thank you for sharing that! He has worked tirelessly since the election was called, including while having and recovering from Covid-19. Labor is a strong team of competent ministers, we’re in great hands,” someone else wrote.

Images: Facebook

Grace Tame slams Albo for Alan Jones interview

Former Australian of the Year Grace Tame has slammed Anthony Albanese for choosing to appear on Alan Jones's digital TV show.

The Labor leader tweeted on Monday afternoon that he had done a prerecorded interview with the controversial former Sky presenter.

“Good to chat with Alan Jones today in his new Sydney studios,” he wrote, beside a photo of the pair shaking hands.

Jones left Sky News in November 2021 after a dispute over his contract, and has now launched his own digital television show, named after him, which went live four nights a week last Monday.

“It’s a privilege to be on your program so early. I congratulate you and I look forward to coming on in the future,” Mr Albanese said in the segment.

However, Grace Tame wasn't impressed with the opposition leader's choice to appear on the show, and slammed him online.

“Yeah nah, this is where you could’ve just frowned and walked off,” she wrote in reply to Mr Albanese’s tweet.

“Or better yet, not done it."

“There are plenty of other ways to broaden your messaging without enabling known agents of sexism and abuse."

“None of us are obliged to speak to bigots. The optics of this aren't good," she concluded.

When Jones was contacted about Ms Tame’s comments, he issued the statement, “No problem at all, Grace Tame is entitled to her opinion”.

In the interview, Alan Jones grilled Albanese about Labor's climate policy, and questioned how he would achieve net zero by 2050.

Mr Albanese said that his first goal was to fix transmission, and make sure that renewables could plug into the grid.

Image credits: Twitter / Getty Images

"Painful": ScoMo and Albo slammed for shouty debate performance

Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese have been slammed for their unruly behaviour toward the host of the second political debate.

The Prime Minister and Opposition Leader butted heads in the fiery debate that was broadcast on Channel 9 on Sunday evening and hosted by Sarah Abo.

The pair were not only speaking over each other, but completely disregarded Abo’s moderating as she asked them again and again to stop as there was another question.

“I think we are getting more questions … Excuse me. I think we’re getting more questions between the two of you than from our panel,” Abo struggled to say.

The leaders, however, completely ignored Abo and continued firing comments at one another – forcing her to butt in once again.

“Mr Morrison and Mr Albanese, this is enough, we do need to move on.”

However, it seemed that both party leaders wanted to get the last word in and continued to speak over Abo, who finally snapped.

“You all agreed to the rules this evening. Chris Uhlmann has a question, and we will move on to his question,” she said.

"That is NOT right."

Moderator Sarah Abo had to step in after the #LeadersDebate heated up over energy policy.

Stream LIVE on @9Now. #60Mins pic.twitter.com/gIRAYcOxzG

— 60 Minutes Australia (@60Mins) May 8, 2022

After the question was asked and both Morrison and Albanese were given time to respond, Abo once again had to interject and inform the Opposition Leader it was time to move on.

“Something that – Mr Albanese, we have a question. Mr Albanese, we have given you more than enough time,” she said.

“The pair of you have had more than enough time. You agreed … You agreed to these rules before coming on the program tonight.”

Abo concluded the evening by summing up what many viewers must have been feeling: “The truth is, the voters are feeling disenchanted. Neither of them are thrilled with either of you as a choice for prime ministers."

Viewers slammed the leaders for ignoring Abo, who made every effort to keep the debate running as smooth as possible.

“Nine's Sarah Abo could have done with a whistle at this point as both leaders spar on national security,” someone wrote.

“OMG...did Morrison just dismiss a female speaking waving his hand at her to shut her up? how embarrassing for poor Sarah Abo,” another commented.

“Royal Commission into the moderation of the debate,” another added.

Others, however, called out Abo for not moderating the debate efficiently, while also calling out her bias.

“Sarah Abo as moderator was supposed to hold the debate together! Instead Sarah Abo allowed the debate to fall apart and descend into chaos!” a comment read.

“Sarah Abo is a terrible moderator. Allowing these two men to yell and talk over each other for over an hour is not a debate,” another added.

“Top notch moderating by Sarah Abo. Let Morrison talk all over Albanese then cut Albanese’s time in response,” someone else commented.

Image: Channel 9

Russell Crowe lends his baritone to Albo's campaign

Anthony Albanese has kickstarted Labor’s campaign launch with a surprise (voice) appearance from Russell Crowe.

The Opposition Leader was at Perth’s Optus Stadium over the weekend when the party’s campaign video began with the actor’s voiceover.

“Australia, we can do better,” Crowe begins the video with.

“All it takes is a better government, with better plans. Too many people are working multiple jobs just to keep their heads above water. We can do better than that.

“Too many of our kids aren’t going to be able to buy a house. “She was enough for me”: Albo makes Grace Tame cry

Anthony Albanese triggered an emotional reaction in Grace Tame and her fiance during a heartbreaking conversation about being raised by a single mum.

Ms Tame asked Mr Albanese for an example of someone who shaped his “views on gender issues and policy” during an interview for InStyle Australia, and his poignant response brought her to tears.

Mr Albanaese explained that when his mother was pregnant with him out of wedlock in 1963, “the fashion of the day” was that neither parent would keep the baby.

“She was going to have got the news that my father had died and then lost the baby and I was going to be adopted out,” Mr Albanese told Ms Tame.

“Because in 1963, when I was born, it was acceptable to be a widow but it wasn’t acceptable to be an unmarried mother.”
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Relationships are complex. The one thing that really, really matters - the essential ingredient - is love.”

Mr Albanese also explained how he waited until his mother passed away to look for his father “because I didn’t want her to think that she wasn’t enough”.

“Because she was enough for me,” he said.

Ms Tame also shared insights about how being surrounded by strong women while growing up gave her a lot of the courage and strength she now had.

“And all I knew was strong women. All around me, all the time. We had a trans family member; I knew diversity, I lived and breathed diversity,” she said.

She added that would likely be processing his story and will “probably go and cry about it later and I’m not ashamed of that”.

When Mr Albanese conceded he had “done okay” in his life, Ms Tame emphasised that he had done “better than okay”.

“A lot of respect for you, Anthony,” she said.

Image: @instyleaus (Instagram)
