A scuffle outside a Melbourne strip club has resulted in a man being knocked unconscious after being struck by a chair thrown by his own mate.

The incident occurred on King Street about 9.20pm on Friday after two men were removed from Bar 20 for allegedly being offensive toward dancers and staff.

CCTV footage shows the pair involved in a physical altercation with security guards before being forced onto the footpath.

One of the men initially picked up a bollard but appeared to abandon the idea of using it when a bouncer approached.

His friend complied with security and sat on the footpath.

Moments later, however, that man returned to the venue’s entrance, apologising and attempting to negotiate re-entry.

Unaware of this, the other man entered a neighbouring restaurant and took a chair from the dining area.

A restaurant employee said she tried to stop him.

“He just suddenly asked for, can I borrow a chair? I tried to stop him asking, it’s our top chair, you cannot take it,” she said.

The man then carried the chair back outside and threw it down the street toward the entrance of the venue, apparently aiming at security staff.

The bouncer on duty saw the chair coming and moved out of the way.

Instead, the chair struck the man’s friend, who was sitting on the footpath, hitting him in the head and rendering him unconscious.

Security staff were seen laughing on CCTV following the incident, believing the chair had been intended for them.

Bar 20’s co-owner told 7NEWS the men were removed for being offensive to dancers and staff, and said he believed the intended target was the head of security.

“Just like yelling with the guy and like others surrounding, they was laughing about this situation,” the restaurant worker said.

“I didn’t say anything because I was shocked and I asked for our staff to help me to take the chair back.

“Suddenly, he woke up and walked like normal.”

Despite the impact, the injured man later regained consciousness. It is understood neither police nor ambulance services were contacted.
