After more than 20 years as 9News Melbourne’s weather presenter, Livinia Nixon has announced she will be stepping down from her role to focus on her family.
Nixon surprised viewers with the announcement on Friday, revealing her decision was driven by a desire to spend more time with her two sons.
“After two decades in the 9Newsroom, I’ve made the difficult decision to step back from my current role,” she wrote on Instagram.
“As you know, the juggle of modern life is unrelenting, and I need to spend more time with my boys.
“Thank you for allowing me the privilege of being in your lounge rooms every night…I haven’t always got the forecast right, but hey, that’s Melbourne for you!” she quipped.
The long-time presenter said she was “so grateful” to have worked alongside a “wonderful news team” and proud to be leaving at a high point in her career.
She also expressed gratitude to the network for understanding and supporting her decision, noting her sons were thrilled at the prospect of having her home more often.
While stepping back from her weather duties, Nixon confirmed she will continue to film stories for Getaway and Postcards.
Her final weather report will air on November 18.
Tributes have poured in from colleagues and fellow television personalities.
Rebecca Judd said it “won’t be the same without” the “GOAT.”
Reporter Allan Raskall added, “You will be missed my friend. You are a consummate professional – second to none! Always a ray of sunshine in our lounge room.”
Sunrise’s Mark Beretta offered his congratulations, writing, “Well done! Always full of class and compassion.”
Better Homes & Gardens presenter Melissa King also shared her support, saying, “Oh Liv, we will miss you on our screens but so happy you are getting more time with your boys. What a pleasure it’s been watching you light up the TV. I’m sure we will see you back again.”
