He once led the country from Parliament House, but former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has been seen lending a hand in a far more unexpected setting – a Sydney CBD car park.
Footage posted to the Instagram page @humansofeastwooddaily shows Abbott in a business shirt and tie, holding open a boom gate to help drivers exit after it appeared to malfunction.
The incident is believed to have taken place in June beneath the Theatre Royal Sydney on King Street, during the 40th anniversary special of Cats the Musical.
As theatregoers exited together, a traffic jam built up in the car park, but Abbott stepped in to help clear the way and ease the delays.
Abbott served as the federal member for Warringah from 1994 to 2019 and led the Liberal Party from 2009 to 2015, winning the 2013 election.
He lost the prime ministership in 2015 to Malcolm Turnbull.
