Watch out, Robert Irwin – there’s a new khaki king in town.

Over the weekend in Irwin’s home state of Queensland, Sunshine Coast locals took part in a lookalike contest with a $500 cash prize for the winner.

A cheeky crowd of contestants dressed in khaki and armed with fake snakes and inflatable crocodiles turned out for the event, with Caloundra dad Ben Marshall taking out the win.

In a post-win interview, Marshall said for the past couple of years he has been mistaken for Robert Irwin – the son of the late Crocodile Hunter.

“People always come up to me saying, ‘You look like Robert’ or, ‘Are you Robert?’ It’s just a regular thing!” he admitted.

“I feel great, I was up all night practicing my dance moves… the ‘crikey’. I’m glad it paid off in the end!”

To claim the top spot, Marshall was donning a khaki outfit, a fake snake toy around his neck, and flashing a charming smile.

Second place went to Reece Walker, who also looked like Irwin.

Lookalike contests have surged in popularity in recent years, including one held in New York in 2024 for actor Timothée Chalamet.

Irwin has meanwhile returned to Australia following his stint on Dancing With The Stars US, where he won the competition and took home the iconic mirrorball trophy.

He recently celebrated his 22nd birthday, with mother Terri Irwin and sister Bindi sharing tributes on Instagram with their millions of followers.
