After more than two decades lighting up our screens and brightening Melbourne’s days, even when the weather didn’t cooperate, beloved TV presenter Livinia Nixon has signed off from 9News Melbourne for the final time.

Nixon first joined the Nine family back in 1997 on Hey Hey It’s Saturday alongside Daryl Somers, but it was her nightly weather presenting gig, a role she’s held since 2004, that turned her into one of Melbourne’s most trusted and adored faces.

On Tuesday night, she shared a warm and heartfelt thank you with the viewers who have welcomed her into their lounge rooms over the years.

“This is a very difficult decision to make, because I do love this job, but I feel like it’s the right decision at the right time for my family,” she said, praising her husband for helping juggle the “mad” realities of raising a family while working an evening shift.

In a nostalgic tribute, the news team popped on a highlight reel showing Nixon delivering forecasts everywhere from snowy mountaintops and the Melbourne Cup to red carpets and rural farms, always smiling, always polished, always Livinia.

She first told fans earlier this month that she would be stepping back to spend more precious time with her boys. “Thank you for allowing me the privilege of being in your lounge rooms every night… I haven’t always got the forecast right, but hey, that’s Melbourne for you,” she joked. “I’m proud to be leaving on a high. I shall be cheering 9News on from the sidelines.”

While Melbourne will miss seeing her in the weather chair, Nixon isn’t going far. She’ll continue sharing adventures on Getaway and Postcards.

Nine’s National News Director, Hugh Nailon, summed up her legacy perfectly, calling her contribution “immeasurable” and celebrating her decades as a “shining star” who brought warmth, expertise and unmatched professionalism to every broadcast.
