Scott Cam’s staggering salary for his role on The Block has reportedly been revealed.
The much-loved host, who recently declared this year’s five teams “the best crew” he has seen in the program’s history, has been the face of the hit renovation series for 19 years.
A TV insider reportedly told Women’s Day that Channel 9 is determined to keep both Cam and co-host Shelley Craft on the show for as long as possible, ensuring Cam was pleased with a sum “close to $2 million dollars” a year.
“As long as audiences keep watching, Scotty and Shelley are the heart of the show,” the source said.
“It’s ultimately up to the network, but if Scott wants to stay, they will find a way to keep him.”
The insider also described Cam as a “delight” to work with, crediting his positive attitude as one of the key reasons for his long tenure.
“He still feels lucky to be doing it year after year and to be part of a show audiences still love. There’s a real sense of gratitude,” they added.
The huge figure would put Cam among the highest paid TV stars in Australia at the moment.
Speaking recently to Realestate.com.au, Cam shared his admiration for this year’s contestants, saying audiences will be impressed with their skill and determination.
“Over the years, there’ve been some great contestants, but as a collective group, these have been my best,” Cam said.
“I think they’ve worked really hard, which I love. And resilience is a really important thing to me, and lack of complaining.”
The veteran host admitted he becomes frustrated with contestants who “whinge” about their time on the show, believing the key to success lies in hard work and perseverance.
“The complaining annoys me because I’ve worked hard all my life, and when I was a young bloke, I worked like a Trojan. And so, I could have done this,” he said.
“This lot worked really hard with a great deal of resilience, and they were good to the crew.
“That’s the other big thing. They had a few blues with each other. So, it’s not boring. But it’s justified. And they were just good to everybody.”
