Russell Crowe has opened up about his inspiring health transformation, revealing he’s dropped an incredible 26kg over the past year and is feeling stronger, healthier, and more energised than he has in years.
Appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the Oscar-winning actor shared that the change came after he joined wellness program Ways2Well – a health services platform designed to go beyond traditional healthcare models by focusing on preventative care and long-term vitality.
“I was 126kg when I finished Nuremberg. I’m 100.9 right now,” Crowe, 61, told Rogan. “Ways2Well was a great call for me because it’s calmed down a bunch of stuff. It’s taking a bunch of pain away so I can go and work out and not have to suffer for two or three hours afterwards. It’s calmed down my body’s inflammation.”
The New Zealand-born Aussie star said Rogan himself introduced him to Ways2Well founder Brigham Buhler, who helped him find a personalised approach to managing pain and improving fitness. Crowe explained that after years of wear and tear from action-heavy film roles, his “deeply arthritic” shoulders had made training difficult, but the targeted injections and IV treatments he’s been receiving have been life-changing.
“I’ve probably connected with them about five times since that first time,” he said. “The real benefit seems to be with these injections I’ve been getting into my shoulders and knees. It’s calmed everything down.”
Before beginning the program, Crowe admitted he could barely lift his arms without pain. “Now it’s f***ing rock and roll, son. It’s all going good,” he said, laughing. “I’m just feeling the musculature starting to build.”
Crowe added that he’s taking things slowly and focusing on sustainable habits rather than crash transformations. “I don’t want to do a quick fix. What I want to do is make all these changes and make it a long-term situation.”
He also revealed that cutting back on alcohol has played a big part in his improved wellbeing. “I’m a big proponent for having a drink – it’s my cultural heritage and as a working-class man, it’s my goddamn right,” he said with a grin. “But as you get older, there are certain things you start to learn about your capacities.”
These days, Crowe limits himself to just one night of “fun” a week. “If I decide to have a glass of wine with dinner, it’s going to be a really nice wine,” he said. “I try not to have casual drinks now – having a drink for the sake of it. I feel better for it.”
With his focus now firmly on health, longevity and balance, Crowe says he’s enjoying life more than ever. “It’s been a really positive year,” he said. “I’m taking it slowly, but I’m feeling stronger and more in control. It feels good to be back.”
