We asked our readers what the earliest lesson they remember learning from their parents is, and the response was overwhelming. Here’s what they said.

Susan Taber –  Didn’t realise we were learning at the time .. but manners, respect, kindness, doing chores, doing what we were told.

Diane Lovell –  Always be polite and kind.

Hentie Jacobs – Saying please and thank you, cleaning up after yourself, and always lend a helping without asking.

Lynette Miller –  There is always someone worse off than yourself.

Judith Forbes – To be respectful of your elders.

Tina Shaw –  Integrity, know and be your integrity and you will always sleep peacefully.

Kerry Houston –  Manners and kindness.

Sylvia Ure –  To stop at the footpath before crossing the road.

Margaret Gleeson-Walden –  Not to answer back.

Rosalie Jones – To love my siblings.

Heather Gem –  Manners.
