Just because a particular version of a song came first, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better than a cover.

We asked our readers what their favourite cover tracks are, and the response was overwhelming.

Here’s what they said.

Moses Serugo – All Whitney Houston covers!

Glen Crawford –  Johnny Cash’s cover of Trent Reznor’s ‘Hurt’. It was one of the last songs Johnny recorded, and is awesome!

Vicki Hunt –  Torn by Natalie Imbruglia. Apparently someone recorded it before she did, although I’ve only heard her version, which was a major hit for her.

Bruce Winther –  Fields of Gold by Eva Cassidy.

Sheila Schmidt –  Bette Midler’s version of Beast of Burden is better than the Rolling Stones.

Ken Jacob –  Simply the Best by Tina Turner better than the original by Bonnie Tyler.

Harold Hanlon –  Elton John doing Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Judi Nicholls – U2 doing Unchained  Melody.

Michael Zoellner –  Blinded By The Light by Manfred Mann. Much better than  Bruce Springsteen who originally did the song.

Jennifer Mitchell –  Hallelujah by Lucy Thomas is absolutely beautiful.

Leanne Guthrie –  We’ve gotta get out of this place, The Angels. Best version ever!!

Weeze Aitch –  Horses by Darryl Braithwaite. Originally by Ricki Lee Jones.

Noelene Braidwood –  The Wonder Of You, by Elvis Presley.

Michael Pemberton –  All Along the Watchtower (Dylan) cover by the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Rick Graham – The Sound of Silence by Disturbed.

Steve Pullan – Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm.

Deirdre Dee O’Hanlon McGregor –  Dear Prudence Beatles song covered by Doug Parkinson, he does a great job, better than the Beatles.

Graham Anderson – Can’t think of one. The originals are the best.
