Rafael Nadal has scored another life victory, becoming a father for the second time.

The 39-year-old retired tennis legend and his wife, Mery “Xisca” Perello, 37, welcomed their son Miquel into the world on Thursday in Palma, Mallorca, according to local reports. The couple, already proud parents to two-year-old Rafa, chose the deeply meaningful name in honour of Perello’s late father, who passed away in April 2023 at age 63.

Perello and baby Miquel returned home from hospital on Saturday to join the rest of the family.

True to form, the famously private pair made no public announcement about the happy news, just as they didn’t when their first child was born. Perello’s pregnancy only became public in April after photos surfaced of her growing bump.

The couple’s love story spans more than 14 years of dating before they tied the knot in October 2019. Perello, who now serves as project director for the Rafael Nadal Foundation, stepped away from her insurance career to focus on the charity and family life.

Nadal has long shared his dream of fatherhood, describing himself as a “family guy” and saying, “I would love to have children, boys, girls … I’m a person who loves kids.”

Now, with two little ones at home, it seems the champion has found his greatest prize yet.
