A young mum and her one-year-old daughter have been found dead inside their family home in Logan, Queensland, in a suspected double murder.
Emergency services were first called to Loganlea Rd on Thursday morning following a traffic crash, after a 39‑year‑old man, later identified as Blake Seers, was hit by a passing vehicle.
When police went to notify his family, they made the grim discovery of Kate Paterson and her daughter’s bodies.
Paterson was a teacher at Windaroo State School, who had just returned from maternity leave. Police have confirmed both mother and daughter had suffered stab wounds.
“It’s quite sad to know… it’s horrible,” a local resident told 7News.
Detectives believe Seers intentionally ran in front of the moving car after leaving the house.
“There are some witness accounts that suggest he was running towards where he was hit by the car and already had some injuries to the neck area,” Detective Superintendent Chris Ahearn said.
Forensic officers are investigating the tragedy, and have spent the day retracing his movements.
Investigators are appealing for any dashcam footage that may show Seers in the moments before the crash. They are also examining whether he has a history of mental health issues.
Seers remains under police guard at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where detectives are waiting to interview him.
