Denmark’s future King, Crown Prince Christian, is looking all grown up in a series of new photos released by the Royal House to celebrate his 20th birthday.
Seven portraits of King Frederik and Queen Mary’s eldest son were shared by the palace on Wednesday, showing the young royal posing in and around the family’s winter residence, Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg in Copenhagen.
Crown Prince Christian celebrated his milestone privately while continuing his military training at Antvorskov Barracks in Slagelse, west of Copenhagen.
In the newly released portraits, Christian appears relaxed in a blue denim shirt in one photo, while another captures him putting on a tie for a more formal look.
One image even offers a glimpse through the open doors of the palace, revealing artwork hanging inside the entrance hall.
Amalienborg Palace, where the photos were taken, holds a special place for the royal family. The historic home, which dates back to the 18th century, became the official winter residence for King Frederik and Queen Mary earlier this month after the couple spent summer at Fredensborg Palace.
Known for its accessibility, Amalienborg remains one of Copenhagen’s most popular tourist attractions.
Unlike many royal residences in the UK, it has no gates or fences blocking the front doors, only guards stationed around the palace.
Frederik VIII’s Palace was once home to King Frederik’s grandmother, Queen Ingrid, and underwent extensive renovations before King Frederik and Queen Mary moved in after their 2010 royal wedding.
The interiors feature works by 10 contemporary Danish artists, personally chosen by the couple, blending royal tradition with modern design.
The Crown Prince began his military service in February and is working towards qualifying as a lieutenant after earning his title as a Guards Hussar in May.
Earlier this week, the Crown Prince shared that “a boy’s dream came true” when he had the chance to fly in an F-16 jet before the fleet’s replacement by newer F-35s.
King Frederik also visited his son that day, possibly joining him for an early birthday celebration.
