Catherine, Princess of Wales, has marked her birthday with a message that breaks from royal tradition this year.

The royal, who turned 44 on January 9, released an emotional video to honour the day.

The video, titled “Mother Nature: Winter”, was shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ YouTube channel and has since attracted nearly 37,000 views.

In the clip, the mum-of-three is shown wandering through nature in winter, dressed in a green trench coat and Baker Boy cap.

“Even in the coldest, darkest season, winter has a way of bringing us stillness, patience and quiet consideration,” Kate said in a voiceover as the footage continued to drift through nature.

“Where the stream slows just enough for us to see our own reflection. To discover the deepest parts of ourselves.

“Alongside the whispers in the pulse of every living thing, I find myself reflecting on how deeply grateful I am. For the rivers within us flow with ease, fears washed away, cleanse and purify.

“Come to peace with our tears and discover what it means to be alive. To be at one with nature; a quiet teacher and a soft voice that guides. In memory. Helping us to heal.”

The Princess launched the “Mother Nature” series this spring to highlight the connection between humanity and nature, and its ability to heal and inspire.

Breaking from the Kensington Palace tradition of releasing formal birthday portraits, Kate opted for a more personal message.

This poignant shift comes nearly a year after announcing she was in remission following treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.

When she completed her cancer treatment in September 2024, the 44-year-old marked the milestone with a similar nature-focused video, this time alongside her family – husband Prince William and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
