Piers Morgan is recovering in hospital after undergoing major surgery following a serious injury.
The 60-year-old broadcaster shared on social media that he tripped on a small step while dining at a London hotel restaurant.
Sharing a selfie from his hospital bed, Morgan confirmed the details of the incident in a post published on X and Instagram on Sunday, January 18.
“1. Tripped on small step. 2. In a London hotel restaurant. 3. Fell like a sack of spuds. 4. Fractured neck of femur,” he wrote.
Morgan said the severity of the fracture meant he needed a full hip replacement and will have to use crutches for the next six weeks.
He also shared that he cannot fly long-haul for the next 12 weeks.
Despite the seriousness of the injury, Morgan made light of the situation in his post, writing that the New Year was off to a difficult start and adding, “I blame Donald Trump” as the final bullet point.
In the photo, he appeared in good spirits, giving a thumbs-up while lying in his hospital bed hooked up to oxygen.
The post prompted an outpouring of support from followers around the world.
Responding to one comment, Morgan admitted that “the shame of it all is worse than the pain!”
He has a history of sharing his trips to hospital with fans.
In 2019, he revealed on social media that he had been hospitalised with stomach gastritis and duodenitis.
In 2020, during a family holiday in Saint-Tropez, he shared on Instagram that he had torn a tendon in his right leg and required crutches.
