Channel 7 sport presenter Alissa Smith and her ex-NRL star husband Matt Ballin are celebrating the arrival of their first child together – a baby boy born just days ago.
The couple, who married in October last year and announced they were expecting in June, revealed their son arrived earlier than planned but perfectly on time for them.
“Welcome to the world, Braxton David Ross Ballin,” Smith and Ballin wrote in a heartfelt announcement.
“Our beautiful son arrived a little earlier than expected – but somehow right on time for us. The moment we held him everything else faded away.
“Born Wednesday 12th November at 11:24pm – Braxton is healthy, perfect and already so very loved.
“We couldn’t be more grateful for a safe and healthy arrival for Mum and Bub. A beautiful start to this new chapter.
“Welcome to our family and team, Braxton.
“We love you x.”
Ballin shared a touching update on social media as well, posting a family photo of all six children – including Braxton and his three older siblings from a previous relationship – meeting for the first time in hospital.
Smith, who joined 7NEWS in Brisbane as a presenter in 2023, signed off from her final news bulletin last month before taking maternity leave.
“Such a special night. My final 7NEWS bulletin before heading off on maternity leave,” she wrote.
“Thank you to my wonderful colleagues for the beautiful flowers and the kind send-off – I’m so grateful for this team and for everyone who’s been part of the journey so far.
“It meant the world to have Matt and our family there to make such a special moment in my career.
“Excited for the next chapter ahead 🍼✨ It’s not goodbye but see you soon… just with a new addition to our crew.”
Ballin also shared his own heartfelt message that night.
“Tonight’s Channel 7 bulletin will be a special one – Alissa’s last before maternity leave,” Ballin posted.
“She’s worked so hard, showing up every night with professionalism, warmth and care, all while being the most loving step-mum to Fletch, Murph and Kenz.”
A beautiful new era begins for the growing family – and baby Brax has already scored a place on the team.
“Now it’s time for her next big chapter – becoming a mum herself.
“We’re all so proud of you, Liss. You’ve given so much to your work and to our family, and we can’t wait to see you take on this new role with the same heart and dedication you bring to everything you do.”
As their baby bubble begins, Ballin will soon be balancing life with a newborn alongside pre-season duties at the Brisbane Broncos.
The 41-year-old retired in 2017 after a celebrated NRL career that included two premierships with the Manly Sea Eagles and a brief stint with Wests Tigers.
He joined the Broncos coaching staff in 2021 and remained on board under coach Michael Maguire this year, playing a key role in their grand final victory over Melbourne.
