The parents of a three-year-old boy who died following a car crash on the Gold Coast in Queensland have been charged with manslaughter and drug trafficking.

Three-year-old Caden Case was in the car with his father Samuel Ian Paterson, 24, and 22-year-old mother and another child when the vehicle crashed into bushland near Stapylton around 5am on October 25.

Caden and his mother were taken to Beenleigh Police Station by a passerby, but the young boy could not be saved despite the efforts of officers.

Paterson and the other child were later found at an address in Beenleigh, where the child was taken to hospital for assessment and cleared, and Paterson has remained in custody since the crash.

After months of investigation, police confirmed on Friday that Caden’s mother was behind the wheel when the car crashed.

She has since been charged with one count of manslaughter domestic violence offence against a child, trafficking in dangerous drugs, and driving without a licence.

Paterson was also charged with one count of manslaughter domestic violence offence against a child and trafficking in dangerous drugs.
