A man’s marriage proposal has gone viral for the wrong reasons, after he was rejected live on stage at a Brisbane concert for band Bootleg Rascal over the weekend.

The video, shared online with the title “PDA gone wrong”, showed the man standing on stage with a microphone as he talked to the crowd.

“My partner and I came to watch Bootleg Rascal about two, three years ago,” he began, before calling out to his partner.

“Jamie, where are you? Can you come up on stage quickly?”

His partner joins him on stage and he tells her: “We saw Bootleg Rascal about two years ago. I thought, you know, they’re our favourite band, and I thought today why not, maybe today is the time,” before dropping to his knees.

The woman is filmed shaking her head and grabbing his hands, trying to get him to stand back up.

Amid the roar of the crowd, the man can be heard repeatedly saying “no?” in disbelief before she runs off stage.

The man, who clearly didn’t expect the rejection, keeps kneeling until someone in a costume helps him to his feet.

The clip then cuts to a title card with the text: “Anyway here’s our break-up song. Stream ‘Reasons’ x” – the band’s latest single.

Viewers were quick to share their second-hand embarrassment in the comments, with one person writing: “I don’t think I have ever felt that awkward on stage in my life!!!”

“That was actually wild,” another added while a few others agreed that it was “painful to watch.”

“Poor fella – anyone know if he’s OK?” another viewer asked.

A few others noted that it was an “amazing way to advertise the tour,” with the band sharing clip to their social media pages with the caption: “First show off to a great start. Not sure we’ll be helping out with another public proposal for a while … In any case, tour continues this week – dates below!”
