Sunrise host Samantha Armytage has had her driving ban overturned on appeal after she was caught doing 75km/h in a 40km/h zone.
The 43-year-old lost five demerit points and faced a three-month suspension of her licence after she was clocked by a speed camera on Sydney’s Eastern Distributor in August.
She was driving to work at 3:45 am, and due to road works, the speed limit in the tunnel was reduced to 40km/h instead of the usual 80.
Fighting her case in Downing Centre Court on Tuesday, Armytage argued that there wasn’t clear signage informing drivers of the amended speed limit.
“It was very disappointing and cost me a lot of time, money and stress to appeal this RMS (Roads and Maritime Services) decision,” she told The Daily Telegraph.
Armytage was allowed to continue driving while her appeal was active.
“I know I’m one of tens of thousands caught doing the same thing in the same spot and I decided to fight it on the basis that their signage is totally inadequate,” she said.
In November, Armytage wrote an appeal letter to the RMS saying she required her licence for work and her family.
“Having regard to my good character and driving history I am a fit and proper person to hold a licence,” she said.
