Oprah Winfrey has arrived in Australia for her first visit in ten years, touching down for a national speaking tour spanning Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

The 71-year-old’s private jet landed in Sydney on Monday, where she was met by a crowd of enthusiastic fans.

One supporter held a sign reading “Oprah plz buy me a car,” a nod to the famous 2004 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show in which she gifted every audience member a new vehicle.

This time, however, the fan did not receive a car – but he did receive a moment with the media icon.

“You get a selfie! …but not a car,” she said, according to Perth Now.

Winfrey last visited Australia in 2015 for An Evening With Oprah, a run of sold-out arena shows. She has returned for a similar series of events, to be hosted by Australian journalist Melissa Doyle.

According to Ticketek, the In Conversation shows will be “special and intimate” and offer a “rare opportunity” to hear directly from the broadcasting trailblazer in a moderated discussion.

“From the power of authenticity to the necessity of resilience, Oprah’s reflections will resonate with anyone seeking purpose, inspiration, or a spark to reimagine their own path,” the ticketing company said in a statement.

Tickets are still available for purchase.

Tour dates:

  • Thursday, December 4: TikTok Entertainment Centre (formerly ICC Sydney Theatre), Sydney
  • Saturday, December 6: Adelaide Entertainment Centre Arena, Adelaide
  • Monday, December 8: Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Brisbane
  • Thursday, December 11: Plenary, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Melbourne

For Oprah Winfrey’s Sydney appearance, the lowest-priced tickets currently available are $174.50. In Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane, the cheapest seats start at $109.

“Can’t wait to be back in Australia and New Zealand for the first time in 10 years!” Oprah said recently.

“Bring your friends, cousins, siblings – everybody.”

Ahead of her arrival, Winfrey shared a video with Australian actor Hugh Jackman, who offered suggestions for how she could spend her downtime while in Sydney.

The Wolverine star outlined several local highlights.

“Go down to Bondi and do the walk from Bondi to Bronte. It’s about a 40 minute walk, and there’s sculptures all the way along, and you’ll love it,” he said, referring to the annual Sculptures by the Sea exhibition.

“If all of a sudden you have the urge jump in the ocean, it’s the best jet lag cure in the world.”

Jackman also recommended breakfast at Bills, describing their ricotta pancakes as the best “in the world.”

He encouraged Winfrey to engage with the public during her stay, adding that Australians are especially fond of her.
