After 30 years, an Alice Springs man has been unmasked as the notorious “Moore Park Rapist” also known as the “Night Stalker”, who sexually assaulted eight women in the early 1990s.
Glenn Gary Cameron, 61, appeared before the Downing Centre Local Court at John Maddison Tower on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to a string of charges relating to the rape of eight women in Sydney between 1991 and 1993.
Renewed efforts by NSW Police in 2022 helped identify Cameron, using DNA technology to match him to his crimes.
He was arrested at Sydney International Airport on February 29 2024, when he flew back into the country.
Cameron has been held on remand since his arrest and on Tuesday pleaded guilty to 13 charges consisting of 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault, one count of attempted aggravated sexual assault and one count of indecent assault.
The judge will also consider on sentence 14 other charges including six counts of indecent assault and five counts of aggravated sexual assault.
According to court documents, Cameron attacked his victims at knifepoint in various locations across Sydney, including Moore Park, Strathfield and Ashfield, with one of his victims tuning into the court via video link.
Cameron, who attended via video link from Long Bay Jail, agreed as his solicitor entered pleas on his behalf.
“Yes, your honour,” Cameron said, as the judge announced that he would be sentenced in the District Court later this year.
A suppression order was put in place for over a year, preventing the media from naming Cameron, but the order was lifted earlier this year.
