A mystery woman could be the key to discovering what happened to Cleo Smith, following stunning claims that the four-year-old has told police she was looked after by a female.

Upon being rescued from a Carnarvon home, the Daily Mail Australia has reported that sources close to the investigation claim Cleo told investigators that while she was locked in the house, a woman took care of her and brushed her hair while she was held captive.

The shocking revelation comes just days after Western Australia police began to wonder if more than one person was involved in Cleo’s abduction.

Detective Senior Sergeant Cameron Blaine said on Monday the investigation was going well.

“Our focus this week is for us to ascertain whether there was anyone else involved. That’s why we are still here,” he told reporters in Carnarvon.

Cleo Smith was found locked in a Tonkin Crescent house in Carnarvon last week, after being missing for 18 days.

One man, Terence Darrell Kelly, has been charged with allegedly abducting four-year-old Cleo from a campsite, as police continue to question him.

Police have urged locals to come forward with any information on Mr Kelly that could prove useful in the ongoing investigation.

“We just ask that if there was anyone that had any contact with Mr Kelly, whether you saw him or met him or spoke to him on the phone, during the relevant period – please make yourself known to police.”
